sell H. Fish III.
The German-born artist Petri (1824-1857) immigrated to the United States in
185o and settled on a farm near Fredericksburg, Texas, in 1852. Pictured in
this barnyard scene milking cows are Petri's sister Marie (background) and
his sister-in-law Therese Lungkwitz. Petri's brother-in-law, the artist Hermann
Lungkwitz, rides a horse in the background. The signature "R. Petri, Austin-
Texas" was added to the picture by an unknown person.
