dependent upon oil. cotton. cattle shipping,
has several wholesale houses, pecan-shelling
plant. Old Protestant Church (Episcopal)

$1,000,000 Luling Farm Foundation, endorsed
by Edgar B Dasis to carry out agricultural

Matagorda, Jackson and Victoria Counties

Deep black waxy, sand and chocolate soils
predominate, some black sand. Timber, found
mainly along xater courses cypress, post
oak, live oak, mesquite, none produced com-
mercially Oil (2,169,705 bbls.*), gas, sulphur
deposits. Mator industry is taking of fish,
shrimp, oysters from coastal waters, mud-
shell dredged and shipped to Houston for
cement industry
Heaxy cotton production (12,706 bales,
1940) on black prairie land; vaiied truck
crops from sandy soils Farmers progressive,
practice conservation, land drainage methods,
have co-operative ginning association.
Average of 15,000 head beef cattle marketed
annually, some sheep raised Turkey, poultry
industry developing xith shipments to out-
side markets increasing
Magnolia Beach, Port O'Connor and Indian-
ola offer fishing and bathing attractions for
tourists xho are coming in increasing num-
bers annually. Green Lake is one of largest
fresh water lakes in Texas.

tourist resort, located on Hug-the-Coast High-

O'Connor (600) is fishing and tourist center
