Teamwork . . . and the Industrial
Growth of the great SouthwestDuring the eleven year span from
1939 to 1950, the industrial growth of
the territory served by SOUTHERN
PACIFIC increased 3721 . The rest
of the nation combined showed an
industrial increase of only 257(( dur-
ing the same period.
This amazing lead of 115, over all
other states didn't just happen. It was
the result of long-range planning, of
coordination of men and methods and
machines, of TEAMWORK between
production and transportation . . . for
one cannot survive without the other,
and neither can grow alone.
Since the humble beginning of its
oldest segment more than 100 years
ago, the group of rail lines now
forming SOUTHERN PACIFIC has
played an important part in the GreatSouthwest industrial development.
Throughout all the vast territory it
serves, SOUTHERN PACIFIC en-
courages industry to move in, helps it
get settled, helps it expand and moves
its goods and personnel in all direc-
tions. That this TEAMWORK "pays
off" is made manifest by the fact
that, over the past seven years, an
average of two new i (dstries per
calc(ldar day have been locating along
SOUTHERN PACIFIC'S 13,700 miles
of trackage!
