STATE INSTITUTE I .
THE BLIND ASYLUM.
Prof. W. A. Smith, Superintendent; Mrs. Smith,,1atron; Miss Mary E. Smith,
Teacher.
There is no salary attached to the above offices, as the establishment has
been partially suspended; but such students as are now sent are boarded and
taught at the expense of the State: the Superintendent being allowed $20 per
month for the board of each pupil, and $20 per month for tuition in the ordinary
branches; the charge for music lessons being $5, per month, each extra.
LUNATIC ASYLUM.
Since 'the opening 8f the Texas State Lunatic Asylum there have been re.
:eived into that Institution 67 patients; 49 males, and 18 females, Of this
number 21 have been restored to their proper mind. There is still room for
Sfew more recent cases ;,the Law governing the Asylum giving those the pref-
:rence over old and chronic cases.
