Notes

Camp Swift was located in Bastrop County, 28 miles east of Austin. It was established in 1942 and named for Eben Swift, a World War I commander. It was the largest Army training and transshipment camp in Texas during World War II, and also housed German prisoners of war. After the war, much of the site was returned to former owners, but the government retained a portion for a Texas National Guard facility and a medium security prison.
