to catch up with their classmates who

I. Pstar Confaadng Christ
Tha time wa near at hnud when
Christ should make tiie suiiremi' offer-
lag of himself for sins on the cross.
Knowing tha tragic experience through
which the dtaclplea would pass he-
causa of it, ha sought to prepare them
to: it bj leading tliem into the appre-
hfuwlon of tha cardinal doeirlnes of
tha Christian faith such as: the In-
tegrity of his person, atoning death,
correction, and second coming.
Peter's confession was provoked hy
twe questions of Jesus*.
1. "Whom do men say that I aw?"
Opinions differed, but all recognized
nlm to be a teacher or a prophet with
Whitcj mort than human authority and power.
2. "Whom say ye that I am!"
Jesus persistently claimed to be the
vary Sod ot God. He would have his
disciples to possess a personal and
experiential knowledge of himself as
to belag God manifest lu the flesh,
II. Chrlat Warning Pster (l.uke
38:3144).
1. Be told him of Satan's desire
concerning him (v. 31). Satan Is con-
stantly striving to destroy men.
1. Christ's prayer for Peter (v 3!i).
He prayed that Peter's fnlth fall
aot not that he ahould escape the
stftlnga.
S. Pater's confidence (v. 83).
His fall began when he refused to
Hatch to Christ's words about tl«a
erosa. Believers begin to weaken
whaa they no longer desire to hear
about Christ crucified.
4 Denial announced (v. 84).
This was to take place three times
before the crowing of the cock.
III. Peter Denying His Lord (John
11:28, 87).
1. Before the servant maid (ry.
10-16).
Peter blundered In attempting to
follow Jesus st this time (John 13:30).
Presumptuous boldness frequently
lands Into embarrassing positions. Un-
der the taunt of the Jewish maid ha
opealy denied the Lord.
Z Before the servants and offi-
cers (v. 25),
i Peter was now warming himself st
the enemy's fire. When questioned, he I j
denied his relstlon to the Lord. Sep- i |
aratlen from everything that is op-
posed to tha Lord Is necessary In order
la have a dear testimony (I! Cor, ;
9:14-18). | •'
8. Before the klaaman of Malcbaa C
(v 28). 5
' This maa had seen Peter with Jesoa "
la Cclhaetnane (v. 10) when Peter ■
raahly cut off the esr of Malcbus. lie "
pat the question straight to Peter. ■
••Did I not see thee In the gardeu JJ
With him?" At the utterance of the ■
tfcird denial, the cock crew, reminding 5
Peter of Christ's warning (Mark 14:72). ■
IV. Peter's Restoration (John 5
1:1MT). ■
Peter had thrice denied his Lord. ■
Therefore, before his reinstatement £
la the Lord's service he must thrive ■
contsaa hla love for Jeaus. In this S
Tetaatatement and commission of Peter
~'ts sat forth tha motive and nature of
the service whleh has Christ's ap-
proval! la all ttmea. Love far Christ,
