The First National Bank of
Aspermont will hold open house on
Saturday, May 5, from 2:00 until
6:00 p.m., when the general public
is invited to come by and inspect
the new and modern bank building.
The local bank moved on April 21
from the building it had occupied
since 1909.
I. W. (Bill) Gholson, county
Democratic chairman, announces
that county precinct conventions
will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 2
p.m. at the following places:
Aspermont, district courtroom;
Old Glory, school house; Peacock,
school house; Wright, R. W.
Woodson residence; Swenson,
Church of Christ building.
It was not known whether
Southside and Rhoda will hold
conventions.
Miss Lue Smith, who is a student
at Hendrick Memorial Hospital
nursing school, spent last weekend
her with her parents.
The Future Homemakers of
America of Aspermont High School
extend an invitation to open house
Friday, May 4 from 3:00 to 3:45.

The Stonewall Memorial
Hospital Board of Directors have
announced they have negotiated
with Doctor Donald Lee Bowler to
move to Aspermont and set up
practice in the Stonewall Memorial
Hospital Clinic.
Doctor Bowler was born in
Randies, Mo. He is 40 years of age
and married, with three children
ages 17,16 and 10. He is a member
of the Baptist Church. Mrs. Bowler
is a registered nurse.
He is a General Practitioner with
considerable experience in ob-
stetrical and orthopedic surgery
and urology.
Marvin (Pockets) Crawfore has
been hired by Stonewall County
Sheriff Jack Stamford as Chief
Deputy. He replaces Gene Mc-
Dowell.
Harlan H. Jenkins has been hired
as the Stonewall Memorial
Hospital administrator.
He has had twelve years of ex-
perience as a Medical Ad-
ministrator. He managed a
combination Hospital and Nursing
home at Winna, Texas, before
coming nere.
The Stonewall County
Democratic Convention will
be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in
the District Courtroom of
CfAnauiall Pnitttft;
house. Artie Boydstun, who
was re-elected county
chairman in Saturday's
election, wiii preside.
Precinct conventions were
held at 7:15 on Saturday
evening. Delegates were
elected from each precinct as

planned for the Sunday
barbecue. The prices will be
$2.50 per plate. All citizens
are urged to attend and watch
the activities.

Meet In Haskell
Aspermont elementary
students won the UIL
Elementary Literary meet in
Haskell, Tuesday, April 27,
with 65 points. Next was Knox
City with 52 and Munday
scored third with 50.
Brad Hennig placed first in
grades 5-6 and Beth Pum-
phrey placed third in grades
7-8 in spelling.
In ready writing Dana
Mrazek placed first in grades
7-8.
Karen Cochran placed first
and Michelle Hoffman placed
fourth in story telling for
grades 2-3.
In oral reading Alana
Fincher placed second and
Brad Hennig placed fifth in
grades 5-6 and Dana Mrazek
placed fourth in grades 7-8.
In picture memory for

valedictorian of the Old Glory
Rural High School grad-
uating class. He is the son of

Debra Teichelman has
been named salutatorian. She
has a 89.9 average, and is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Teichelman.
In the eighth grade
graduating class in Old Glory
School, Sherry Rhoads is the
valedictorian with a 96.8
average. She is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. George
Rhoads.
Aleisa Cox with an 89.8
average is the eighth grade
salutatorian. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Tax Assessor Race
Joyce Y. McNutt was
elected to her first term as
county tax assessor ceiiccior
during the Democratic
Primary here Saturday. Her
opponents, Fern Rash
received 290 and Jerre Cook,
206. Mrs. McNutt received 560
votes.
Travis M. Hartgraves was
also elected to a first term in
an uncontested race for
county attorney. He tallied
872 votes.
Marvin Crawford, sheriff
since 1973, was re-elected
with 744 votes to 306 for
Rayborn Fitts.
Joseph Tigpen gathered 629
votes in Stonewall County to
incumbent Royce Adkins' 407
with similar showings over
the district to earn the
district attorney position for
district 39.
J. C. Gholson retained his
Precinct 1 commissioner's
spot with 189 to challenger L.
R. Moyers' 124.
I. W. "BUI" Gholson was
uncontested for county judge
and received 899 votes.
J. D. Parker was re-elected
as commissioner of Precinct
3 without a contest.
In the Democratic Party
structure, Artie Boydstun
received 633 votes to opposing
J. M. Allen's 353 to remain
county chairman.
Winners in contested
precinct chairmen races
were Novine Heathcott, 133,
over L. D. McAfee, 79, in
Prec. 1; Van Dickerson, 156,
over Hubert Roach, 107,
Prec. 9; Tom Ed Simpson, 44,
over Luther Meier, 7, in Prec.
6.
The statewide trend was
followed in other balloting
with delegates for Jimmy
Carter getting a total of 1551
votes in the county and
424,725 in the state to earn 90
convention seats.
Statewide, the Republicans
gave their nod to presidential
hopeful Ronald Reagan with
134,190 and 96 convention
seats to President Gerald
Ford's 68,291, 0 seats.

Appreciation Award
Jay Pumphrey, formerly of
Old Glory, was honored at the
10th annual Agricultural
Awards Banquet at Tarleton
State University when he was
presented the TSU Ag-
ricultural Appreciation
Award.
Pumphrey, who lives in
Fort Worth, is trustee and
general manager of the cattle
and oil interests of Burnett
Estates in Fort Worth, which
include* the 6666 and Pitch-
fork ranches.
David Hoy has gone to
Louisiana to resume work on
a barge titer*.
Mr*. Wayman Smith has
returned to her home in
Pierre, S. D , after a stay of
several months in Asper-
mont.

Funeral for Cora Hahn, 53,
was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at
Faith L *ran Church in
Sagc-rton Mrs. Hahn died at
6:10 a.m. Monday at Haskell
Memorial Hoepital following
a short illness.
The Rev. Gary Kleypas,
pastor, officiated. Burial was
in Old Glory Cemetery under
the direction of Kinney
Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 23, 1923, in
Haskell, she had lived in
Stonewall County since 1964,
moving here from Haskell.
She was a member of Faith
Lutheran Chuch
She married Leon Hahn
Dec. 1, 1945.
Survivors include her
husband; two sons, Jerry of
Southland and Loy of
Aspermont; three brtothers,
Rogers Freeman of Lubbock,
Roy Freeman of Clifton and
James Freeman of Rule; and
