Picture Calallen baseball and you
can see bats and big ones at that.
The Wildcats are a team that likes to
stick the ball and they will be facing
the Calhoun Sandcrabs tonight in a
7 30 pm District 30-AAA A game
Leading the way for Calallen is
Keith Martin, who is hitting 491 and
has five home runs, along with 27
rbis. Another big bat in the Wildcat
line-up is first baseman Clay
Pflueger, who carries a .400 average
along with his five dingers and 19
rbis.
The Wildcats are 3-2 in district and
9-6 overall A win by the Sandcrabs,
who are 1-4 and 1-10 overall, could
give them an outside chance to
sneak back into the playoff picture
Currently, Flour Bluff leads the
district with a 5-0 mark, and G-P and
Robstown are tied for second with
4-1 records.
The Sanddcrabs are coming off
their first district win of the season,
9-8, over Tuloso-Midway Calhoun
scored six runs in the bottom of the
sixth inning to give sophomore relief
pitcher Sean Fric his first varsity
win Tracy Blake, who will likely get
the start tonight, picked up the save
Blake has been the Sandcrabs most
consistent pitcher this season.
In their last two games, the Sand
crabs have shown signs of breaking
out of their season long slump For
example, right fielder Russell
Pilzner has gone 5-8 with three rbis
in his last two games First baseman
Louis Gonzalez has been the Sand
crabs most consistent hitter on the
season and has been impressive at

ou like your home, your neighborhood and the people who live around you
True, you probably wouldn’t mind living in a newer, energy-efficient home
But you're comfortable where you are
Now get even more comfortable.
Central Power and Light has developed a program that can make your
present house more energy efficient It's called the CawHBfele Home Program
What they'll do is run a Proa Centsable survey on your house and then
analyze the data Then, they'll give you specific recommendations on how to
lower your energy bills
The recommendations involve steps like adding more attic insulation,
caulking around windows and doors and putting an insulated blanket around your
water heater And installing a new properly sized central heat pump or air
conditioner will qualify you for a Centsable Home Certificate from CPL
Nbu can either call a contractor or do the work yourself Either way you'll get
a lower energy bill every month And a more comfortable home,
If you're interested in the Centsable Home Program,
k give CPI a call And get Centsable about
your home energy use

first since being moved there from
behind the plate earlier in the
season.
Defense has been the Sandcrabs
nemesis all season. The Calhoun pit-
ching staff does not have the velocity
to strike out 10-12 batters a game
and must depend on their defense. In
the field, the Sandcrabs have been
enigmatic. In their last three games,
Calhoun committed no errors
against Gregory-Portland, eight
against Robstown and four against •
Tuloso-Midway. The eight errors •
against Robstown cost the Sand-
crabs a chance for a fairly easy win •
against the defending district cham-
pions The errors cost Calhoun seven
unearned runs in a 9-8 loss.
Over the three seasons the Sand
crabs have been in District
30-AAAA, they have had some
memorable matchups with the
Calallen Wildcats. In 1987, there was
a homerfest won by the Wildcats in
miniscule Oil Belt Park and last
season The Sandcrabs came close
to upsetting the then state ranked
Wildcats when Darren Albrecht was
thrown out at the plat to end a 8 7
contest
The Calhoun junior varsity con-
tinues to play well as they thumped
Tuloso-Midway, 15-0on Friday. Jim
my Wilson picked up the win
Calhoun JV will travel to Corpus
Christi to face the Calallen JV.
Next week, the Sandcrabs will be
on the road twice as they travel to ' **
