GARDEN CLUBS
The Fannie Marchman Garden Club was organized February 18, 1936,
with Mrs. Ola (E.A.) Reeves as president.
Their civic project is the upkeep of the city cemetery. Mrs. Minnie (Claude)
Jones is chairman of the committee. Mrs. Fannie Marchman passed away re-
cently in Dallas.
The Community Chest gives $700.00 per year on the upkeep of this ceme-
tery, which requires $1800 to $1900 annually for the upkeep.
DELPHIANS
This club was organized in 1935. It gives scholarships to deserving girls.
Also, a $50.00 donation is made to the public library annually. The first
President was Mrs. C.B. Templeton. In April, 1970, the Delphians hosted
the Smith-Wood County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center's
meeting. The speaker was Gary South.
OTHER CLUBS
A teachers' organization (May 19, 1970), a 4-H Club, and a club for the
colored students to better their conditions have developed during later years.
