edition (1959) indicates that there is a need which this/TAX PRIMER

pleted tax report and supporting schedules included as on example.

macmville. Tenn. - The at York College, York, Neb. this ry, Elam Heffingt
is the first step of the Founda-
tion’s program to encourage the
development of leadership
among our Negro brethren.
Impressed by. the fact that a
rather small percentage of Ne-
groes in Davidson County, Ten-
nessee, (about 3%) are mem-
bers of the church as compared
with about 10% among the
white population, Elam Hef-
fington. an elder of the Acklen
Avenue Church of Christ in
Nashville, called a meeting of
interested brethren to consider
this problem.
While the city officials pon
dered the sit-in demonstration
in one part of town, Christians
in another part were planning
ways to aid fellow Christians
and neighbors of the Negro race.
ONE OBVIOUS NEED was
better opportunities for Chris-
tian education for the Negroes.
Opportunities for attending a
Christian college were almost
non-existent for the young peo
pie of the Negro race in Nash-
ville and many other areas
Therefore, the Foundation for
Christian Education was
formed to provide funds to these.
The Foundation will also re-
ceive and distribute informa-
tion about the financial assist-
ance and curricular offerings
available at the various Chris-
tian colleges who admit negroes
in their enrollment.
