Associate seven years ago.
She is also an extraordinary
minister and a member of the
Altar Society.

restitution by the depart-
ment and dispensed to 50
victims.
The Community Service
Restitution Program is a
service where defendants
are ordered by the Court to
perform work for a non-profit
group, church, school or a part
of government. This program
provides an actual dollar sav-
ings to the community as the
work performed is work that
is needed. During the months
of February, March and April,
2010, the Community Service
Restitution Program pro-
vided 3,277.25 hours of volun-
teer service worth $ 16,877.84
to the community.

The DeWitt Unit of the
Adult Probation Department
provides a number of services
to the community, among
those are the Victim Restitu-
tion Program and the Com-
munity Service Restitution
Program. These programs
provide vital services to the
Community.
The Victim Restitution
Program is a service provided
when the Court orders a de-
fendant to pay restitution to
the victim for the loss they
have suffered. The defendant
pays this amount through the
Adult Probation Department,
as a condition of probation.
During the months of Febru-
ary’, March and April, 2010,

Signup Dates start May 17
It's Summer Rec Registra-
tion time again. Registration
will be in several locations.
Kids ages 3 to adult are invit-
ed to sign up for competitive
sports in track and swimming;
lessons in swimming, golf, art,
gymnastics, and (if enough
interested) adult water aero-
bics, art and yoga exercises.

Classes May 17
In Yoakum
Golden Crescent CASA
will be hosting Volunteer
Advocate Training Classes
in Yoakum. The first class
will be Monday, May 17 at
5 p.m., at the First United
Methodist Church Fellow-
ship Hall. Anyone inter-
ested in helping the abused
and neglected children of
Lavaca and DeWitt counties
are encouraged to attend.

Yoakum woman bestowed 13th annual
Mother Elizabeth Ann Seton Award
Mrs. Mary McQuillen was
recently honored with the
13th annual Mother Eliza-
beth Ann Seton Award at the
Awards Dinner Ceremony at
the Knights of Columbus Hall
in Shiner on April 22. This ser-
vice award is given annually
to honor a local parishioner
who supports our Catholic
school and parish.
Mrs. McQuillen has served
St. Joseph Parish and School
for over 60 years.
She is a graduate of St.
Joseph High School, and has
five children and one grand-
daughter who are also SJS
graduates.
Mrs. McQuillen supports
Dynamic Speaker at Women’s
Conference in Cuero on May 21
There will be a dynamic
speaker at “Warriors Carry
Purses Women’s Conference”
hosted by Fresh Start Fel-
lowship Women of Purpose
at 410 E. Broadway St. in
Cuero.
The conference will be
Friday, May 21 at 7 p.m. and
Saturday, May 22 at 9 to 11:15
a. m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Admis-
sion is free but registration
is required. A meal will be
served each day. Please con-

Sestak Retires from Post Office
Dennis Sestak recently retired after 25 years with the Yoakum Post Office. Sestak now plans to enjoy
his days fishing, camping, hunting and playing dominoes with his wife Doloras Sestak, three children,
Michael, Janice and Peggie and his six grandchildren. Making his retirement official from left: Kurtis
