ride the bus, which usually runs on
schedule, or if I miss the bus, I can
always walk. That is the patriotic
thing to do!
During the past Christmas holi-
days, it- became routine conversa-
tion when talking about the evening
before, for my girl friends to say,
"I stayed home with the family last
night, and I had a grand time." Yes,
it has been quite some time since
any of us stayed home and "vis-
ited" with our families, and it was
fun. We popped corn, put jig-saw
puzzles together, and made candy--
when we could spare the sugar. Be-
ing with the family made us moreconscious of the fact that probably
by next Christmas, there would be
some members of the family that
would not be present to help us cele-
brate.
There have been many changes in
the past years, and there are going
to be more radical changes to come.
Although it is nice to remember
happy occasions, we must adjust our-
selves to more work and less play.
These many activities to which we
have been accustomed are only a few
reasons for which we are fighting
today, and when the war is over, we
will again be able to enjoy these
things.HE WHO IS FREE
Free is man who rides alone,
Finding love in seeds long sown,
Knowing peace from stars and books,
Drinking water first from brooks.
Free is he who sees the sun
Rise at morn and set when done,
Looks to moon for simple thrills,
Follows silence through the hills,
Feeds his herd, and grows his bread,
Grumbling not at clouds o'erhead,
Feels the wooing of the wind,
Weeps to see a star descend,
Paints a gem with word or brush,
Stands alone in evening's hush,
Hears the call of wilder things,
Turns to earth while robin sings.
He is man who hears it all;
He is wise who heeds its call,
