Text: Bellevue, Clay Co; Texas. Dec. the 7th 1898. Mr. J. H. Major, Elreno, Okla. Dear sir:- I drop you these few lines to see what is the matter with you. _What_ in the _name of conscience_, in the name of _justice and right_, in the name of _honor and honesty_, and in the name of _common sense do you mean by treating me with_ such _protracted negligence and utter contempt as you have_, as I have not received the scratch of a pen or any other thing from you since I sent you my statement; the 20th day of June 1898. If I were able I would not care for giving you a _reasonable time_ which I have _more_ than done already, but I don’t feel like giving you _eternity_ in which to do a thing that _you know_ that you should have done at once when I sent you the statement, you know that you have had _more_ than _ample time_, and also _more than ample means to settle this business with_, and I know it when I realize the fact that you are running _your business_, and living sumptuously every day, and sending a son off to school, and taking out patents &c., _and I and mine are so unworthy, and so far beneath your notice that you can’t condolence, or stoop so low as to consider my little insignificant needs as you may term them_, you have no other excuse except that of protracted negligence in delaying this verry [sic] important matter. The correct statement that I sent you _shows you plainly_ that you are _due me at least $65.30 after counting in every item_ of expense _that you claim including the $200.00_ that you claim on the three trips to Oklahoma, as my said statement _plainly shows_. Now: if you relinquish your claim of the said $200.00 on the said three trips to Oklahoma which relinquishment would be right owing to the _cause and effect_ so prominent in this case. My part of the said $200.00 is $50.00 as you know which when added to the aforesaid $65.30 makes the simple sum of $115.30 rightly _due me_ which is as plain as the noonday sun, this is according to your own previous acknowledgements, all _except_ my part of the said $200.00 that you claim, which claim I am frank to say that I don’t think is right, but I will slit the difference with you _on that_ and allow you $25.00 to my part on said trips which would leave you due me only $90.30 _if you will send me the said $90.30 within ten days from date of this letter_. What will you do? Let me hear from you with _remittance_ by return mail. Respectfully J.J. Click. P.S. It is unnecessary for me to tell you of my financial embarrassment as you are somewhat aware of those facts already.
