Notes
"Editor's Note: This is an unfinished story. It was written in the fall of 1908, and was delivered to us at that time in this incomplete state. Mr. Porter promised to finish it speedily. But he was already ill, and his long, pathetic struggle to write in spite of sickness and mental weariness had begun. Mr. Porter had told us but little about the ending he purposed for the story...We should like to have our readers guess how he meant to end the plot."
