Senior Class Barbecue
Will Be Held Saturday
• The senior class barbecue will
be held Saturday. Last Saturday,
April 23, was the last day for
the seniors to pay the class dues.
Any one qan come to the barbecue,
biit all seniors must show class
dues cards before they will be
. served. The barbecue will be held
at the city park; the time will be
from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m.
The entertainment committee has
planned several activities. There
will be three-legged races, sack
races, and many other activities.
Entertainment is still in the plan-
ning. stage.
Everyone ia encouraged to come,
and each person is guaranteed a
good time, class president James
Rivers said.

Awards Presented to
Rifle Teams Thursday
Last Thursday a ceremony was
held in the main auditorium to
present the awards to the men's
and women's rifle teams. Brig.
Gen. D. S. Buchanan, U. S, Marine
Corps, K'/t,, and his wife, and
President E. J. oHwell were pre-
sent. Gen. Buchannan presented
the awards while Capt. John Allyn
read the official order.
A .22 cal, rifle, given by the
Tarleton book store, was awarded,
to Cadet Sergeant Santiago Tri-
baldos for having attained the
highest individual score on the

Tarleton ROTC Rifle Team for the
year 1959-60.
Having won second place in the
State ROTC rifle match, the mem-
bers of the Tarleton ROTC rifle
team received the. ROTC Match
Team awards. Thoso were
Charles Elliot, Donald Hickman,
Santiago Tribaldos, and Eugene
Welimeyer.

Corps Is Rated
Satisfactory by 1G
Last week the official report
on the annual IG inspection came
in from Fourth Army headquar-
ters. The Tarleton Cadet Corps re-
ceived a satisfactory rating. Other
parts of the report were very
complimentary.
The presentation of the subject
matter in class by instructors was
outstanding. The lesson plans were
Complete and well prepared. Minor
discrepancies noted were corrected
on the spot.
The drill team was proclaimed
outstanding. Military courtesy, ap-
pearance, and bearing were out-
standing, It was ' noted that the
Cadet Corps was handled by the
Cadet officers in a superior man-
ner. The voice control and com-
manders of the officers were ex-
cellent as well as was the spirit
of the corps. .
The report also stated that the
ROTC program is being conducted
in a superior manner. It stated
that Col. Sherrod is extremely in-
terested and enthusiastic about the
ROTC program here at Tarleton.
Throngs of parents and friends
of TSC students flocked to the
campus Sunday for Parents' Day
festivities.
Visitors saw displays and ex-
hibitions, staged by the various
departments, met TSC instructors
and members of the administra-
tion from 1 to-3:30 p.m., and as-
sembled at Memorial Stadium,
Sunday afternoon for the intro-
duction of Tarleton's distinguished
students.
The highlight of the program
was the introduction of Queen
Sally Ann Moore and her court.
Miss Moore is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ben A. Moore of De-
cature.
The Queen's court included:
Gloria Gates, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs, H, R. Cates of Kaufman;
Marie Swafford, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. L. C. Swafford of Grand-
falls, Mary Beth Daniels, daugh-

Eastland will present the com-
mencement address to the gradu-
ating class May 22, - President E.
J, Howell announced last week.
. A review of cadets at 3 p.m.
will begin the day of graduation
for tiie Class of I960. Following
the review, there will be a recep-
tion for the faculty and students
in the Cardinal Room from 4 to
5:00 p.m. Commencement exercises
will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Me-
morial Staduim.
The prograir; for the exercises
includes: processional, TSC Band,
directed by Hilmar Wagner; in-
vocation, the Very Reverend L.
Russell Clapp, vicar of St. Luke's
Episcopal Church; recognition of
honor graduates, President E. J.
Howell; greetings, Dr. M. T. Har-
rington, President of the Texas
A & M College System; address,
by Mrs. Perkins, Eastland; pre-

Bane, director of the Baptist Stu-

school' seniors, and TSC freshmen.
Mr. Stuart Chilton
Attends Convention
Tarleton's registrar Mr. Stuart
Chilton went to San Francisco last
•week to attend the annual meeting
of the American Ass°datkm of
Collegiate Registrars and Admis-
sions Officers.
Mr. Chilton left Monday, April
14, and returned Saturday, April
23. He flew on the new Boing 707
.Tet Airliner, it took him two
hours and thirty three minutes to
get there and two hours and forty-
five minutes to get back.
During his stay, he stayed at
the Mayfair Western Hotel, the
meetings that he attended were-
held at the Statler Hilton. There
were twenty Texas colleges rep-
resented at the meeting.
During his stay, Mr. Chilton
saw the quiz show Truth or Con-
sequences and This is Your Life.
Mr. Chilton said, that he had
a most enjoyable time, and tha
ride on the jet was quite an ex-
perience.
Doug Younger Takes All
Around Cowboy Honors
Doug Younger from Chico, Tex-
as rode off with the Ail-Around
Cowboy trophy of the 1960 Tar-
leton spring rodeo. During the two
nightly performances in the Audie
Murphy arena, the leading Ail-
Around conestants switched their
standings time and again with
only a slight margin between the
top contestants.
When the final score was tabu-
lated, Younger held only a frac-
tion of a point lead over Dickiu
Schnee. The trophy was a hand-
tooled . saddle.
The show was plagued by in-
juries. During the Friday night
performance Snuffy Gillum, one
of the clowns, recieved an injury
during a steer wrestling exhibi-
tion. Gillum was taken to the hos-
pital, but was able to return for
the Saturday performance and as-
sist in the score tabulations.
During the bull riding event of
the Friday show, Bill Roberts, a
Tech student was hooked in the
back by his bull as he attemped to
climb to the safty of the arena
fence. Roberts was taken to the
hospital with a bruised back and is
reported to be "doing well. Joe
McWilliahis rode to the whistle on
the- bull that injured Roberta, and
narrowly escaped the bull's horns
himself. By the quick action of
the clowns, John Stokes and
Snuffy Gillum, most of the cow-
boys were able to escape injury.
Tooter Smith received the worst
injury of the Saturday night per-
formance. After riding a bare
back the required time, Smith was
thrown under the hooves of the
bronc. One of the hooves sruck the
cowboy's right arm between the
shoulder and elbow, and broke it
