By Charles Dunn
The Apaches will be in the Tarleton gym tonight with so fearsome
a fight that they remind one of their namesake. Thus far this year, the
team from Tyler has been as successful as it was last year when it
won its national title. What are Tarleton's chances against. Tyler? At
first glance the chances seem rather slim, considering Tyler's record.
But then—what about the Plowboys? Their record hasn' been unsuc-
cessful by any means. They ceftainlly won't be on the court tonight re-
signed to lose. It will be a hard fight and a close one and, whichever
way it turns out tonight, the fans may be certain that' Tarleton will
have been in here fighting.
Note to every student, member of the faculty; or Tarleton fan—The
game tonight is one. you should not miss. It will be a difficult contest
with a skilled team, apd the Plowboys will need air the support they
can get. Don't let this game go unattended in the maimer of some pis
season. You will enjoy every minute of it and your' presence certainly
will fiid the home team.
Despite the temporary loss of two key players, Coach Zapalap
proved his resourcefulness Saturday night against Schreiner as he
came up with a potent starting line up. He substituted Chapman in
the place of Jones and Daeus for Ball, placing Lackey in Dacus' slot
as forward. Chapman, with his superior jumping, proved to be an apt
substitute for Jones as did Dacus for Ball. Dacus was high point man
for the Plowboys. . • \
He's out for a few games, but he won't be for long. Yes, a knee in-
jury took M. C. out of the starting basketball lineup for a few weeks
but he is determined to be back in as soon as his knee will permit.
Jones hails from Flomont where he placed 4 years of basketball. His
knee was weakened first several years ago when a horse fell on it.
This all-around sportsman received his second knee injury wliile play-
ing football on the Tarleton team.
The weather has of late made indoor sports more desirable. This
situation has caused intramurals to go indoors. Basketball and volley-
ball are the major sports these days. Tumbling is still going, of course,
and we hear that there has lately been some badminton.
Receiving my vote for most improved basketball player of the year is
Bobby Cavazos. Cavazos has been, playing prettier basketball in each
games he plays. He has made some wonderful shots and rendered
strong defensive playing. It is nearly impossible for a 'man to get past
him in a charge for the basket. If Ca,vazos continues on. his wonderful
progress, all I can say is "Look out, Tyler!"

TYLER TONIGHT
Tonight the Tarleton cagers will
be host to the Tyler Apaches in
the Tarleton gym.
The Plowboys will have a combi-
nation to fight the Apaches, but
they will be missing two key men,:
Harold Ball and M. C. Jones. Tyler,
though, is not known to be Suffer-
ing any injury or handicap. The
team which won the national
championship last year has re-
mained unbeaten and ,has had no
accidents.
Tyler has much of its last year's
team back with a few Additions.
Among these is McNeil, who last
year led his high school team to
a state championship. The addi-
tions this year greatly increase
the Apache strength.
Although a Tyler victory is ex-
pected tonight, the Plowboys have
pulled upsets before and they are
capable of doing it again.

FACULTY WINS
THIRD STR AIGHT
IN VOLLEYBALL
The Faculty advanced tlseir win-
ning - streak in volley ball at the
expense of one of their closest ri-
vals', as they downed the Rifles
15-5, 15-7 Thursday evening. Due
to weather, tests, and registra-
tion, no other games were played
during the last week.
The Faculty added Dr. Grant
and Sgt. Rothwell to their roster,
which gave the team some needed
height. With a team of Grant, Bal-
low, Tompkins, Thomas, Peacock,
Tarpley, Rothwell, and Gunn, the
Faculty is set to keep its un-
defeated record unblemmished. At
present their record stands at three
wins and no losses.
This week Coach Flory hopes
to get the volleyball playoffs back
in full swing. The Killers encoun-
ter the Green Wave and the Vets
play the Rockets Wednesday even-
ing. Thursday the Bums meet the
Toughies and the Rifles play the
Fort. The Faculty meets the Jac-
kets in a game to determine the
leader of the American League
and the Band no. 2 plays the Bom-
bers Friday night.

Seven Tarleton students were on
the Stephenville boxing team which
returned victorious from the re-
cent regional Golden Gloves meet
at Brownwood. With them the
fighters brought the team trophy
and several champions to represent
this area at the state tournament
in Fort Worth.
John "Potty" Willingham, light-
heavyweight in the open class, took
the Brownwood title without com-
petition. He fought two exhibition
matches at the meeting. Potty
climbed to the semi-finals last year
in the, state tournament. He is to
do as well easily this year.
"Slugger" Jim Terry, 135, lost
his fight. in the novice division
after he injured his thumb.
George Day,'a 200-pound heavy-
weight, lost a split decision to
Brownwood's competitor.
James "Killer" Coble, 185, won
the novice heavyweight champion-
ship. He came through with a hard
earned decision Thursday night,
and a knockout over Scott Matlock
of Brownwood in the first' roun^
of Friday's bout put him on top.
Robert Santos, 155, lost a close
decision to Jackie Fulton of Brown-
wood. Santos showed some clever
fighting, but Fulton was too fast
svnd classy.
, Lawerence Satterwhite, 157, won
the novice middleweight champion-
ship by a split decision over Roy
Moore of Brownwood in the finals
Saturday night. ' -■?: <■ ■ ■ %
Billy Dickerson, 137, fighting in
the open class, put on two of the
best performances of the regional
meet. Thursday, night he scored a
shocking knockout over Dalton of
San Saba. Saturday night he de-
feated his teammate, Gene Lam-
bert, 137, for the title. He should
go a long way in the state meet.
Virgil Little won the open light-
weight division by defeating Albert
Dunn, also of Stephenville. Dunn
was runner-up for the title. '
Also representing Stephenville
were Charley Fernandez and Jerry
Flowers, both lightweights in the
novice class. v
