ANOTHER IMROVEMENT.
The Hereford National Bank is
Now Lighted by Electricity
Wednesday the battery and fix-
tures for the lighting of the Here-
ford National Bank by electricity
was received and that evening Cash-
ier Clinkinbeard installed the new
plant.
After having properly placed the
battery and other apparatus in posi-
tion the light was turned on and we
speak the truth when we say that
the 14-candle power lights thus ob-
tained are stronger and steadier
than the 16-candle power lights
which are furnished by the dynamo
electric light plants, and at a far
less expense, as one charge of the
batteries will run their two lights
for a period of 200 hours.
The lights are on stands which
can be moved to any part of the
room where light is desired.
If this new system of lighting
proves a success, and at present
there is no doubt but that it will,
many more of our business houses
and even residences will be so illum-
inated and the bank officials are to
be commended for their progres-
siveness in experimenting upon this
new system and congratulated upon
the result.
President Ferguson expects soon
to have his residence
lighted thereby.

ARRANGEMENTS MADE
For the Proper Celebration of the
Fourth at Hereford.
At a meeting Tuesday night of
the different committees appointed
to arrange for the Independence
Day exercises and to furnish amuse-
ments for the many visitors who
will visit this metropolis on that day
it was found that all had done their
work faithfully and that a regular
old-fashioned Fourth of July picnic
would take place on that day, with
speeches by Hon. D. E. Decker
and Rev. Randolph Clark and races
of different nature, such as horse
races, bicycle races, burro race,
foot races, sack race, etc., and a
baseball game between the Hereford
and Dimmitt teams. In addition to
these sports a tournament will be
held. No one barred from any of
the contests.
Everybody come and bring well-
filled baskets and enjoy yourselves.
Dental Notice.
I wish to inform my patrons that
I will be in Hereford for one week
on or about July 5, 1901. I would be
pleased to meet those in need of
dental services. 18-4t
W. E. Robertson.
