Local Masons Gire Reception to
Visiting Members and Friends.
One of the most important func-
tions which ha<ve been witnessed in
Hereford this season was the public
reception given by the Masonic
Lodge at their hall in this city on
Monday evening of this week, the
Eiry purpose of the occasion be-
the annual installation of
rs. Besides the* members of
their respective families, a large
number of visiting members and
friends were invited, the majority of
the latter being eager to gain all
the information possible about the
hidden mysteries of Masonry.
At the appointed hour, the gavel
of Worshipful Master, L. A. Simp-
son, brought the house to a death-
like stillness and the impressive
ceremonies attendant upon the in-
stallation of officers was begun,
these being under the immediate
supervision of Mr. Simpson 'and
District Deputy W. B. Boyd.
The newly elected officers for the
ensuing year were installed in their
order as follows:
W. H. Russell, W. M.; C. B.
Googer, S. W.; G. M. Suggs, J. W.;
Geo. W. Irwin, Sec.; J. F. Easley,
Treas.; H. C. My rick, S.D.; Dr. J.
W. Hicks, J. D.; E. B. Black,
Chaplain; T. M. Palmer, S. S.; W.
B. Beach, J. S.; J. A. Kirkpatrick,
Tiler.
After a brief, but spirited, address
by Judge Russell in which he paid
some very high tributes to the man
whom he was succeeding in office,
all repaired to the Ritchey House
where a sumptuous repast had been
prepared under the espionage of
Messrs T. M. Palmer and W. B.
Beach. It was here in the spacious
dining hall of this popular hostlery,
through the kindness of the genial
and courteous proprietor that all
were permitted to enter into more
than an hour of unalloyed enjoyment
of feasting and strains of enchant-
ing music.
The visitors in attendance could
but be deeply impressed with the
solemnity and systematic order per-
vading all the exercises of the ven-
erable order and were glad in their
hearts for the privilege of the even-
ing.
Railroad Business Doubled.
Station Agent J. W. Lacey in-
formed a Brand representative this
week that the gross receipts of the
company at this point are more than
double what they were at this season
last year. This is a pretty good
index to the real prosperity and sub-
stantial growth which Hereford is
now enjoying. So far as our knowl-
edge goes, there is no West Texas
town which can claim so much along
the line of material growth and ad-
vancement.
The railroad company are awake
to the fact that their business at this
point is becoming quite voluminous
and that it is but a matter of a short
time when they will be compelled to
furnish more adequate depot facili-
ties, both in new buildings and ad-
ditional help.
