REACH YOUR POTENTIAL WITH
LANGDELL

With the beginning of
every new semester, there is a
new batch of Langdell Schol-
ars teaching on weekends to
new students. The Langdell
Scholar program, which began
in 1989 at South Texas, is de-
signed to help students reach
their fullest academic potential.
Often, students have
many misconceptions about the
program. Every year, the Aca-
demic Assistance Program in-
vites certain entering students to
participate based on a variety
of criteria. According to As-
sistant Dean of Academic As-
sistance and Counseling Orgena
M. Lewis, the program selects
students based on LS AT scores,
undergraduate GPA, and re-
sponses to a diagnostic writ-
ing test administered in orien-
tation.
"Every student is the
brightest and the best, other-
wise, they would not be here.
We found that some students to
maximize their potential may
need help in their study skills
and legal analysis," Lewis
said.
However, students
who are not officially invited
to participate in the program
can still enroll. So far, any stu-
dent that has met the deadline
has been accepted. Yet, in or-
der to attend the weekend
classes, a student must be en-
rolled in the Langdell program.
The purpose of this policy is
to keep classes from becom-
ing too big.
One of the most inter-
esting aspects of the Langdell
program is who teaches the particular class with that particular professor's class,
class. It is upperclassmen, professor. These are stu-
who have previously had that dents who did well in that
