here last night to mob Kpps the negro
who so cruelly murdered Jnines Dobson
a few nights ago by the vlgllants but

ties kept the excited crowd at bay. All
city people collected from the neighbor-
hood of Salisbury and by 4 o'clock It
was evident that to leave Kpps litre
over night was almost certain death.
So preparations were at once msde to
remove him to Vlncennea for safe-keeping.
Just at dusk a buggy drove hur-
riedly up to the rear of the Jail. In mi
Instant It was surrounded by the crowd.
Soon the Sheriff appeared wltli a cocked
revolver in his hand and stated he
would shoot the tlrst man who Inter-
fered. In a moment's time Knns was In
a bufgy and disappearing us fast as the
horses could take lilui. The crowd was

and several men started at once. Hut as
there were several different roads they
