Lack of Pressure
Several members of the Fire Depart-
ment claim that at the lire last night the
water pressure was altogether inade-
quate The nozzle holders had to go so
close to the lire In order to throw water
on the same as to slider seriously from
heat. These complaints are made at
every lire and yet no attention Is paid
to It either by the Water-works Com-
pany or the City Council. The contract
la very explicit on this point and the
Hrackenridge water monopoly has
broken this provision often enimtrk to
forfeit Its rights had it any.

An Assignment.
The large furniture house of Krastus
Heed one of the oldest established busi-
ness places In the city closed Its doors
this morning and the llrtn or Krastus
Iteed composed of Mrs. Almlra T. Heed

a crash the assignee named being Peter

lars of this assignment but could gain
little Information Mr. Shields statlnghe
knew nothing of It beyond the simple
fact of the assignment. Tbe assets and
liabilities are not known or what caused
tbe falluie. It Is believed however the
liabilities are very large while the assets
are small.

TEX A3 OAVES
One Seen by Mr. C B Russell Who
Describes It.
Mr. C. II. Hnssell route agent fur
Wells Fargo A Co. 'a express Is In the
olty. having returned from a business
trip for hlscompany as farwestas F.sgle
Pass. He brought hack with hi in aosae
beautiful specimens of stalactites se-
cured by lilui In n recently discovered
cave about IH) miles northeast ofllrack-
ett. They areola milky white petrefac-
tlon glittering In the light as If studded
with diamond mist. In his description
of the cave Mr. Hnssell tells an almost
fairy tale or tbe wonders eren there.
The cave Is easy or access and when in-
side It many beautiful grottoes are seen.
One chamber is 111 feet long liy about
8) high and there are live or tlx cham-
bers ns large as this. One chamber
which ns yet has not been explored is
supposed to be lunch larger and more
beautiful. It could not be reached on
account ufa stone barrier very high and
hall like which could not be scaled lor
lack of proper means. The cave was dis-
covered by a poor shepherd accident-
ally. Another man claims to know of an-
other cave in the neighborhood which
be will not reveal because he wants to
secure the land fur speculation. He
claims to have explored It and tells mar-
velous tales of Its beauty and value. The
land Is owned by the Mexican National
Hallway.
On his next trip Mr. Hussell will ex-
plore tbe cave more completely uml will
give the results to the readers of the
LimtT oh his return
COMING SPRING.
The Rejuvenation of Nature is Ap-
proaching III every clime the seasons change
and now that Spring beautiful In floral
grandeur Is near It behooves merchants
to come out in their usual style to an-
nounce clearing out sales for various
reasons given. Ostentatious announce-
ments In glowing style wanting room
and endless other means are resorted to
to draw a guileless public on the stated
devise. "Selling oil' below cost" to make
room in order to catch trade. This old
beaten path has been used so often and
hence has become stale. The fact Is the
season Is over and while quite a large
supply of goods remain undisposed of
nnd why should these be not? It Is the
legitimate "modus operandi" for all
merchants to dispose of surplus stock
and yet not sacrifice and make an un-
sophisticated publlo believe that they
have been possessed of a great touch of
llberalliy on a sudden saying "goods
given away" etc. This Is a parody In
the manner of doing a legitimate busi-
ness by strict business men.
However good sound arguments and
reasoning with sensible people will al-
ways oonvince nnd thus It Is that I.
Wolfson comes to the front and an-
nounces to his many patrons that the
time for taking stuck has passed by. A
large quantity of goods In all the various
branches .In nis establishment are un-
sold his marks of cost and sale are so
near alike that very little can be made
In reduction of prices. Yet results will
tell every time and fair dealing has
been the chief factor In the success In
the race for trade among the business
men In this country. Mr. Wolfson
found that he can dispose of n limited
amount of stock at low llgures but will
not sell below cost for It means ruin he
will not give nway goods for tbe same
reason but will dispose for cash at such
llgures as to oiler bargains unpreceden-
ted to his patrons as well as to enable
him to make room lor tbe Increasing
spring stock clothing hats furnishing
goods and everything In the way ot
ladles dress and fancy goods.
These late winter offers will only
hold good for a very short time
and having heretofore kept good faith
with bis patrons and the people of
Southwest Texas they will tlnd It to
their Interest to come and see for them-
selves. Mr. Wollson means Just what
he says and now Is the time for cheap
and low bargains In everything. l-2-0t
