Rock Wall
$30 for a summer pass
NT alum Caleb Simpson (top left) and Fred
Yackulic, a Denton resident, climb regularly
at the Pohl Recreation Center, coming at least
two, if not three times each week.
Yackulic, 61, usually climbs with his
18-year-old son Ethan Yackulic and said the
wall is important because there are few places
in North Texas to climb outdoors. Yackulic's
wife, Margaret Notley, is a professor at UNT.
"The closest is two hours away," he said,
adding that the recreation center has a "very
good wall."
Simpson agrees, labeling it the "best in the
Dallas area."

Heejun Kim (left) and his brother
Heewon Kim play ping-pong at
least two times a week in the Pohl
Recreation Center.
The brothers moved to Denton
from Seoul, South Korea, about four
years ago. They aren't students, but
pay to use the center, in which they
also swim nearly every morning.
