Senator Hightower offered

Whereas, In order to promote ef-
ficiency and economy and to avoid un-
necessary repetition of material in the
Senate Journal; now, therefore, be it
Resolved that only numbers of bills
reported by Senate Committees and
only numbers of bills signed by the
President be printed in the Senate
Journal; and, be it further
Resolved that only captions of Sen-
ate Concurrent Resolutions be print-
ed; and, he it further
Resolved that only the first roll call
be printed on local calendar days to
indicate the attendance for the day
and that the numbers of bills passed
and the vote by which each was passed
be printed, with negative votes re-
corded where applicable.
The resolution was read and was
adopted.
Presentation of Guests
The President recognized Senator
Aikin who presented as guests of the
Senate today the following former
Members of the Texas Senate: For-
mer Senators Jack Strong, Andy Rog-
ers, Criss Cole, Walter Richter, Jep
Fuller and Jimmy Phillips.
The President then recognized Sen-
ator Jack Hightower who introduced
Mrs. Ben G. O'Neal, the widow of a
former Member of the Texas Senate.
The President introduced as guests
of the Senate the families and friends
of Senator Lindley Beckworth, Sen-
ator Glenn Kothmann, Senator Max
Sherman and Senator Jim Wallace.Oath of Office Administered
to Officers
The President directed the officers
of the Senate named in the Caucus
Report to proceed to the Bar of the
Senate. The President then adminis-
tered the Constitutional Oath of Of-
fice to the officers.
Election of President Pro Tempore
The President announced the elec-
tion of the President Pro Tempore
for the Regular Session of the Sixty-
second Legislature as the next order
of business.
Senator Aikin nominated the Hon-
orable Jack Hightower of Vernon to
be President Pro Tempore.
Senators Watson, Herring, Hall,
Snelson, Ratliff, Creighton, Connally,
McKool, Harrington, Blanchard and
Patman seconded the nomination of
Senator Hightower for President Pro
Tempore of the Regular Session of
the Sixty-second Legislature.
Senators Snelson and Patman were
appointed as tellers to take up and
count the ballots.
The ballots were taken up and
counted and the result was announced
as follows:
Senator Hightower received 30 votes
with 1 present not voting.
The President declared that the
Honorable Jack Hightower had been
duly elected President Pro Tempore
of the Sixty-second Legislature and
Senators Aikin, Word, Hall, Watson
and Grover were appointed to escort
Senator Hightower and his wife and
daughters, Ann, Amy and Alison, to
the President's Rostrum.
The President then administered
the Constitutional Oath of Office to
Senator Hightower as President Pro
Tempore for the Regular Session of
the Sixty-second Legislature and pre-
sented him to the Members of the
Senate.
Senator Hightower addressed the
Senate expressing his appreciation
for the friendship of the Members of
the Senate, for the generous remarks
of his colleagues and for the position
of honor bestowed upon him.
The President recognized Senator
Word who introduced the members
of Senator Hightower's family: his
