Funeral for Mrs. Nathalee Henry
Kern, 59, of Jacksonville was held
at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Thompson
L.H. Thacker
Funeral for L.H. Thacker, 89 of
Alto, was held Friday April 21 in St.
Thomas Chapel Methodist ChujMh,
near Alto, with the Rev. RÍF.
Morrison officiating.
Burial was in St. Thomas Chapel
Cemetery under the direction of
O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home on
Alto.
Mr Thacker died April 17 in a
Jacksonville hospital after a brief
illness. He was a lifetime resident
of Cherokee County, was a farmer
and a member of St. Thomas

e is survived by a son and
daughter-in-law, Lee and Ethel
Thacker of Alto; a daughter, Doshie
Mae Woods of Oakland, Calif.; two
grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren; and four great-

M, of Alto was held at 1 p.m. Wed-
nesday in Linwood Baptist Church
near Alto, with the Rev. Herman
Martin officiating.
Burial was in Linwood Cemetery

Mrs. Brown died Sunday in a

She is survived by her parents,
Will and Will Mae Blackshire of
Alto; four sons, Calvin, Billy, and
Teddy Brown of Alto, and Michael
Brown of Hunts ville; four
daughters, Mardine Brown, Doris
Mackett and Pearl Williams of Alto,
and Shirley Whittaker of Wells; two
brothers, Ralph Blackshire of Alto
and Elcie Blackshire of Houston; a
sister, Mittie Bell Johnson of
Dallas; 21 grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.
New Life Gospel
singers featured
at Jacksonville
The New Life Gospel group will be
at the Jacksonville Community
Center, 300 South Bolton (former
Jacksonville Library Building)
from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday for a gospel
singing.
No admission will be charged. A
love offering will be taken to benefit
the Christian Missionary Center at
North Bolton and Wilson Streets in
Jacksonville. The center was recen-
tly opened to help the needy with
food, clothes and some furniture.
A reception will be held following
the singing and cold drinks and
toekies will be served.
The public is invited to attend and
joy an evening of gospel singing,
ilowship and food. Donations can
be made to the Christian
Missionary Cantor.
Fifth Swfiday
event scheduled
at Rusk church
Fifth Sunday singing is set tor 2
p.m. at the First United Pentecostal
Church, Highway 69 North.
Featured in concert will be the
New Kingdom Heirs.
The public is cordially invited to
attend, according to the Rev. T.E.
Pate, pastor.

The Forest Homecoming will be
Sunday May 7th at the Forest Bap-
tist Church. Church service will be
from 10:30 to 11:30 that morning.

Mrs. Kern died at 6:39 a.m. Sun-
day in a Jacksonville hospital
following a short illness. She was
born Nov. 18, 1919, at Mfcon and
was a lifelong resident of the un,

Emmaus Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband, John
Kern of Jacksonville; two sons and
a daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda
Brown of Jacksonville, David
Brown of Buford, Ga.; a daughter,
Mrs. Kay Loya of Jacksonville; a
sister, Mrs. Barbara Trotter ef
Rusk, six grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were David Stone,
Richard Stone Jr., Bill Goodwin,
Doug Lewis, Eugene Carpenter and
James Byrd.
Methodist revival set

revival, April 30 - May 2, 7 p.m.
nightly. The Rev. Randy Fit-
zgerald, pastor of Summerfield
United Methodist Church,
Lengview, is the guest evangelist.
Tom Haddock, lay leader of First
United Methodist Church, Rusk,
will be song evangelist. The chior
from First Methodist, Rusk, under
the direction of Mrs. Gloria Dotson,
will provide special music on Sun-
day night.
Fitzgerald has been in ehurch
work since he was young. Much of
his early work was as a musician in
revivals, teaming up with his
brother in full time evangelism for
eight years. He is an honor
graduate from Baylor in music and
an honor graduate from S.M.U.
with a Master of Theology denree
He is in his seeond year working on
a Doctor of Mtpictry in Church
Growth, Filler Seminary,
Pasadena, California.
Summerfield United Methodist
Church is a thriving congregation
just beyond the new Longview Mall.
It is on the cutting edge of the
growth in Longview with new sub-
divisions and apartments around it.
His previous pastorates were Fir
st Methodist, Grapeland-Latexo,
Hardin United Methodist Church,
the Grapeland Circuit, and Wesley
United Methodist Church, Athens.
Adams Chapel is completing a
restoration of their sanctuary and
the renovation of their Fellowship
Hall, The revival will be the first
time these new facilities will be
used. An informal reception for
everybody will follow each service.
