of Alpha Alpha Gamma Sorority. Looking on is Bob Arizpe,
1989 South Cherokee Crusade chairman. The annual crusade
will be conducted in Rusk and Alto May 1-6.
Sororities meet
Preceptor Zeta Gamma
On April 20,1989, Preceptor Zeta
Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi
met at the home of Mary Holcomb.
This meeting was a "come as you
are" meeting. Mary had phoned
everyone on the weekend prior to
the meeting after 10 p.m. and asked
them to come as they were when
she called them. Almost everyone
came in either their PJ's or gowns.
Present at this meeting was Mary
Holcomb, Marilyn Campbell, Irma
Wallace, Janice Munsinger, Reda
Wilcox, Estelle Ham, Patsy Ken-
chen, Vivian Vaught and Florence
Ocker.
After a short business meeting,
President Patsy Kinchen called for
the election of officers for the
coming year. Elected were Pat
baggett; president; Mary Holcomb,
vice president; Janice Munsinger,
treasurer; Irma Wallace, recording
secretary; Marilyn Campbell,
corresponding secretary and
Estelle Ham, exentsion officer.
For the program, Mary Holcomb
gave a tour of her recently re-
modeled home.
The social committee served
baked chicken breasts, spinich
salad, brown rice, broccoli spears,
rolls, tea and ice cream pie. Janice
Munsinger won the hostess gift.
On April 3,1989, the meeting was
héld at Mary Holcomb's home.
Present were Irma Wallace, Estelle
Ham, Vivian Vaught, Pat Baggett,
Janice Munsinger, Florence Ocker,
and Mary Holcomb, who was
hostess for the meeting. '
Mary called the meeting to order
in the absence of President Patsy
Kinchen. Plans for the annual
Founder's Day Banquet to be held
on April 27, were discussed and the
"Girl of the Year" was voted on.
Florence Ocker's program for
evening was a purse scavenger
hunt. Pat Baggett won the prize for
having the most "junk" in her pur-
se. After the program, Mrs.
Holcomb served taco salad, picante
sauce, and banana pudding. Janice
Munsinger won the hostess gift
again.
Alpha Alpha Gamma
Jana Irby's home at Lake
Jacksonville was the site of Alpha
Alpha Gamma's meeting April 3.
President Cindy Stark presided.
It was reported the family picnic
will be Sunday, May 21. The
sorority's adoptive friend, Eva
Rabalais, had a birthday April 4.
The chapter voted to approve a;;
i donation to the American Cancer
Society's fund drive. Wayne and
Means chairman Cindy Richards
discussed plans for the upcoming
Fair on the Square.
Jonna Wilson was in charge of the
Xi Epsilon Kappa
On Monday, April 3, the Xi Ep-
silon Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma
Phi met in the home of Marilyn
Harris, Each member was greeted
at the door by Mrs. Harris and a
movie star's name written on a gold
star was pinned to their backs.
Throughout the evening members
asked questions of each other to get
information about their stars iden-
tity. Clarice Welch was the first to
identify her star. She recieved a
multi colored heart shaped rag
potholder.
The group conducted a business
meeting during which Founders
Day activities were discussed. The
group also discussed the state Beta
Sigma Phi Convention in Fort
Worth in June and a Mother's Day

Central High Homemakers enjoy style show at meeting

The Central High Extension
Homemakera Club met April 19 at
Vw cortrtnunity center with 16
members and nine visitors present.
President Margaret Griffith
presided, Madeline Danheim led
the pledges to the U.S. and Texas
flags. Members answered roll call
by naminga favorite color.
Eight members from the club at-
tended the Sew Fair in Tyler March
15. The fair was an all day event
Family reunion
to be held
The annual May Reunion will be
held Sunday, May 7 at the Cold
Springs Methodist Church
Pavillior, Alto, with lunch begin-
ning at 12 noon. All decendants of
the May Family are encouraged to
bring a covered dish and join in the

sponsored by the Smith County Ex-
tension Clubs.
A report was made on the District
9 annual meeting April 4 at
Livingston. Some 13 members from
Cherokee County attended. Second
place ribbons were brought home
by Nell Ward in painting and Elna
Perkins for fiber arts. These items
are eligible to be placed in the
cultural arts competition at the
state meeting in Corpus Christi in
September.
The council report was given by
Mrs. Hartman. She reminded
members that the extension cook-
books would be available in mid-
May. She also said that the work
day held March 28 at the council
room was well attended. Various
craft projects were going on at the
same time. A delicious covered dish
luncheon was enjoyed and plans
were made to continue the work
days in the early fall.
Mrs. Griffith informed members
of the award of the most outstan-
ding club of Cherokee County was
presented at the district meet in
Livingston. Two SO year awards
were given to Erma Richardson
and Amye Henderson.
Betty Hardin of "Special Ladies"
at Alto presented a style show.
Stylish T-shirt dresses were
modeled, as well as mother and
daughter dresses. Emal Rogers and
Ann Christoher completed the
program by teacher modular com-
ponents clothing.
Nell Ward offered a prayer and a
delicious covered dish luncheon
was enjoyed by those attending.

were presented with beautiful ac-
cent dishes.
Members enjoyed refreshments
of tuna salad, cheese, crackers,
yogurt pie and iced tea. Those
present included Connye Guy, Mrs.
Harris, Mrs. Smith, Mrs Sanders
and Mrs. Welch.
On April 17 Xi Epsilon Kappa met
at the Southern Motor Inn. A
business meeting was held to
discuss various activities. The
group voted on Girl of the Year, 1st
Lady of the Year and the scholar-
ship recipient. Members also
signed Mother's Day cards for
women at Rusk Nursing Home.
Candis Blankinship presented a
program on the many aspects of the
ASCS. She discussed flood and
drought relief in particular.
Members enjoyed onion rings,
club sandwiches, cherry
cheesecake, coffee and iced tea.
Conney Guy won the hostess gift.
Those present included: Marilyn
Harris, Myra Winder, Clarice
Welch, Sandra Sanders, Carolyn
Smith, Mrs. Blankinship and Mrs.
Guy.
