By ELMER LUCK
Over 2,000 people were on hand
Friday night to watch 23AA rivals
Alto and Elkhart in a key district

Alto overcame anil point deficit
and a last second threat by the Elks
to register a 19-18 win.
The victory moves the Yellowjack-
ets to 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in
district play, while Elkhart falls to
6-1 and 3-1.
Alto had earlier lost to Groveton
and the Elks must play Groveton

Alto took a 7-0 lead in the early
going when quarterback Robert
Regan threw a perfect pasa to
Earlsey Wade for a 55 yard touch-
down pass. Randy Tullis booted the
extra point to make it 7-0 with 7:11
in the first quarter. But the Ellu
bounced back for 18 straight points
to lead at halftime 18-7.
The Yellowjackets struck for TDs
in the third and fourth quarters to
regain the lead. Both touchdowns
came from No. 7 Howard
Richardson on runs of 36 and 26
yards. The latter with just 8:08 to
go in the game.
Then it was left up to quarter-
back Bo Black of Elkhart. Black ran
ánd passed the Elks down to the
Alto four yard line. At that point
the Elks decided to go for the game
winning field goal with 56 seconds
to go on fourth and two. The22yard
field goal attempt sailed wide to the
left off Jimmy Fraziers foot. Alto
then ran out the clock to win the
game.
This week Alto will host Leon.
