RHS Lady Eagles
begin district competition
The Rusk Lady Eagles Varsity
and Freshmen Basketball teams
began district play with games and
scores listed as follows:
Corrigan-Camden defeated the
Rusk Lady Eagles in the last 2.1
seconds of the last quarter, break-
ing a 51-51 tie. Rusk led in the
fourth quarter until a minute and
30 seconds. Final score was Rusk
51, Corrigan 53.
Tiffany Session was high point
Lady Eagle with 16 points, Crystal
Vaught scored 15 points, Shelonda
Kennedy 13, Nyja Leviston 4 and
Jessica Brooks had 3 points.
The Lady Eagles then playéd the
Huntington Devilettes and were
defeated 41-23.
Key scorers were Tiffany Sessions
with 2 points, Tona Lewis 6 points,
Jessica Brooks 3, Shelonda
Kennedy 4, Crystal Vaught 6 and
Nyja Leviston with 2 points.
Coach Guidry commented, "Rusk
played very good defense for most of
the game, but we didn't get points
from our key people. We must credit
Huntington with very good defen-
sive play." Huntington is 4-0 in dis-
trict.
In Freshmen co&petition, the
Lady Eagles began play with
Corrigan-Camden and a very close
game. The Lady Eagles rose to the
occasion and came out on top though
with a score of Rusk 24, Corrigan
23.
The matey between Huntington
and Rusk ended with a win for Hun-
tington. Final score was Rusk 39,
Huntington 45.
Lady Eagles scoring during the
game were Julie Boren with
17points, Shaye Lucas 10 points,
BriAnn Pate 6 points, Denise Jones
4 points and Kandy Sitgreaves had
2 points.
Coach Guildry commented that
the team played a very tough
ballgame and never gave up.
During the Neches JV Tourna-
ment, the Freshman team took con-
solation. The first game was played
against Slocum. Rusk succumbed to
Slocum 29-12. Kandy Sitgreaves
scored 2 points, BriAnn Pate 2
points, Shaye Lucas 2 points, Julie
Boren 2 points and Amanda Prince
4 points.
Rusk played Cayuga in its second
game of the tournament ind won.
Final score was Rusk 32, Cayuga
28.
Leading scorers were: Kandy
Sitgreaves 4 points, Denise Jones 9,
Shaye Lucas 4, Julie Boren 4,
Roshunda Tilley 3, BriAnn Pate 2
points and Amanda Prince 6 points.
Rusk defeated Elkhart in their
third round of the tournament to
take consolation in a sound victory
and final score Rusk 40, Elkhart 29.
Denise Jones was high point
scorer with 16 points to her credit,
Kandy Sitgreaves scored 2 points,
BriAnn 5, Shaye Lucas 4, Julie
Boren 11 and Amanda Prince had
2 points.

The Rusk eighth grade Lady Eagles
opened district play with a win over
Corrigan-Camden 64-2. A list of the
points scored by team members are
listed as follows: Holly Holcomb 4,
Martha Sturns 17, Colleen Tucker 8,
Miste Bolden 10, Katie Session 14,
Stephanie Tisdale 2, Jessica Fuller 5
and Lakisha Windom 4.
The team has a district record of 1-
0 and a season record of 5-1.
The Lady Eagles participated in
the Palestine Tournament this past
weekend and brought home first
place.
Rusk defeated Henderson 47-22,
Kerens 46-16 and Bullard in the fi-
nals with a score of 41-20.
Martha Sturns and LaKisha
Windam led the Lady Eagles in total
rebounds for the tournament. Holly
Holcomb led assists. Stephanie
Tisdale, Holly Holcomb and Martha
Sturns led steals.
Leading scorers were: Katie Ses-
sions 32 points, Martha SturnB 35
points and LaKisha Windam 25
points.
The Lady Eagles are now 8-1 foi
the season and 1-0 in district plaj
They travel to Crockett on Thursday
for seventh and eighth grade garnet
beginning at 6 p.m. The next hon>*-
game will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 20 again >
Crockett.
