Within a period of nine
hours, Elgin experienced
two violent crimes.
First, a little after 4
p.m. on August 13, a
shooting occurred in
the 500 block of East
Alamo Street that re-
new yoga studio in Bas-
trop.
This is Body + Shine’s
shots. Two males jumped
from the passenger side
of the car and fled on
foot and remain at-large.
However, the driver was
taken into custody.
All occupants of the
vehicle are believed to
have been involved in
the shots being fired at
the house on Wilder-
ness Trail. Further, EPD
believes the Wilderness
Trail shooting was in
retaliation for the homi-

A fire that started on
Old Antioch Road on
Thursday afternoon in
the region between Bas-
trop and Buescher state
parks quickly expanded
to a 700-acre fire that has
stopped growing but con-
tinues to be tended to.
The fire ignited at
around 3:30 p.m. on
Thursday near the 500
block of Old Antioch
Road. Winds helped
spread the fire to areas
with heavy fuel loads.
By midnight, the fire
was estimated at about
320 acres and was 10%
contained. Fire behav-
ior remained active until
about 4 a.m. and crews
remained to fight the fire
overnight, but officials
anticipated it to pick up
again later on Friday as
the day gets hotter.
