1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas joins the
3 citizens of Tyler and Texans across the state in mourning the loss
4 of A. W. Riter, Jr. , who died September 23, 2003, at the age of 79;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, A longtime East Texas businessman and civic leader,
7 A. W. "Dub" Riter was a member of the board of ' regents of The
8 University of Texas System; he was well known for his dedication,
9 his loyalty, and his generosity to The University of Texas at Tyler,
10 where he served on the development board; and
11 WHEREAS, During a lifetime of public service, he received
12 many well-deserved honors; he was named East Texan of the Year by
13 the Texas Chamber of Commerce and received the Business Hall of Fame
14 honor from Junior Achievement of Greater Tyler; and
15 WHEREAS, very active in civic affairs, Dub Riter served as
16 president of the East Texas State Fair Association, the East Texas
17 Hospital Foundation, and the East Texas Symphony Association; he
18 was member of the Governor 's Business Council Executive Committee
19 and the Governor 's Select Task Force on Public Education; and
20 WHEREAS, A beloved and respected Texan, Dub Riter will long
21 be remembered as one of this state's most treasured citizens; he was
22 a man of integrity, strength, and generosity who gave unselfishly
23 of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
24 will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
