queition i "Will the Coming Woman Attend

the coming woman a new iprltig bonnet this
important queition may be safely answered in
the affirmative.
"Does it pay" asks a correipondent "for
a minister to take a three monthl' vacation t"
Does it ? Well we should lay so. There are
some churches of which we wot where we
think it would pay the pastor to take about n
months' vacation every year and then put on
coming back to the last minute with a hope of
missing the train. Hurliogten Ilawkeye.

The following details with regard to the
hair dressing of Japanese ladles may be of In-
terest and help to elucidate much ol the mys-
tery which always surrounds the meaning of a
Japanese picture. In Japan a girl at the age
of nine wears her hsir tied up in a red scarf
bound round the back of her head the fore-
head is left bare with the exception of a
couple of locks one on each side. When she
is oi a marriageable age she combs her hslr
forward and makes it up into the shspe of a
fan or a butterfly and at the same time deco-
rates it with silver cord and balls of varied
colors. This means everything and is fully
understood by the young men of Japan. A
widow who withes for a second huabtnd puts
a tortoise shell pin horitontally at the back of
her head and twists her hair round it while an
incontolabte widow cuts her hair short and
f;oes in for no adornment of any sort. These
att are very rare lly these simple means
much confusion is avoided. A glance round
a ball room suffices to tell the age and status
of every lady In the place and a great deal
might be said for the introduction of such a
custom into this country.
Married Folks Would Be Happier.
If they tried to be as agreeable as in court-
ship days.
If they kissed and made up at once after
every quarrel.
If each would tiy to be a real comfort and
support to the other.
If household expenses were always propor-
tioned to the receipts.
If each remembered the other was practi-
cally a human being and not an angel.
If men were as thoughtful for their wives as
they were for them when sweethearts.
If women were as kind to their husbands as
they are to their lovers.
If both parties remembered they were mar-
ried for worse as well as better.
- If there wee fewer silks and velvet costumes
and more plain tidy house dresses and street
ones too for that matter.
If there were fewer "please darlings" In
public and more common manners in pri-
vate. If husbands and wives would take Iheir
pleasure as they go along and not degenerate
into mere toiling machines. Recreation is
necessary to keep the heart in its place and to
try to get along without it Is a big mistake.
A Hint For Inventors
Inventors ought to find a good field in the
study of some effective means to utilise asphalt
as fuel. The solution of this question would
be of great service to this country. It Is said
that many of what were thought to be coal
mines recently discovered in various parts ol
Mexico are really deposits of bitumen. Now
while asphalt is highly combustible there
seems to be at present no practicable method
to utilize it as fuel owing to its melting when
subjected to heat. It is likely however that
with the demand for cheap fuel now felt all
over the country for railway mining and other
Industrial purposes some effective method can
be devised to make practical use of its heat-
producing qualities; burning it perhaps alter
reducing it cither to a liquid or vaporized
form. The inventor of such a process could
command a handsome fortune for the use of
the right in this country. The products of the
new oil wells in Vera Cruz much of which
are said to be too heavy for Illuminating pur-
poses might also be utilized in the same
manner.
