lVlltor His Anlonlu Mvhl i
Some members of Hook and Ladder
company propose to lunkw a start In
matters concerning a tiro alarm system
for this city to-night and will from this
on persistently demand It. If the press
of the city will assist us In our efforts to
secure this essential Improvement tho
Fire department will be very thankful
for Its services. A system of Are alarm
boxes will give llrcmcn a chanoo to get
to tho location ofn lire without having
to go on a wlhl goose chasa In searoh of
the same and spending all their strength
in frullUas running as Is tho case at
present. N'one of us are afraid to do our
duty us we may have proven In the
lingo A Schimdtrcr lire; but to be sent
on fools' errands by falsely sounded
alarms as was tho case Sunday night
when the bells sent us to tho Second In-
stead of the Third ward Is enough to
dlsnourogo the most patient man and
though wi may rls.k nur health and llfo
without hesitation when n citizen's hard
earned property Is threatened with
destruction we do most positively
protest against running such; risks
simply because an Ignoramus in
his excitement and haste sends us In
nn oiipalto direction to that which we
i should take. This would seem a trivial
matter to complain about and would be
nur lor ino laei mar u ims raieiy oc-
curred very frequently and must be rem-
edied. On Sunday night for Instance
the man whose duly It was to ring an
alarm for lire distinctly heard this mes-
sage through the telephone: "lire at
ino snooting gallery next to posromce."
Well ntifl good ; he Immediately nlaruM
for tlio Second wnfd. When asked after-
wards why he did so Instead of sound-
ing Third ward he excuses himself by
savlnir. "Well. I dinks It's bv der old
posht-ofles" the present olllco of Mr i
l'cter Shields abandoned for the pres
ent location some seven or eiuni years
ago. Now then to remedy this unsat-
Isfactory state of thlnus J say simply put
in a nuujber ox eotrio alarm boxes
connect them with tho engine houses
and the Instruments when turned on
old iemenibranc.es. records the number
Itselfjust llko the electric aonuclatlon In
n hotel olllce. A list underneath the an-
nunciator tells every llreman from what
particular point nn alarm Is sent and I
tho apparatus goes to the scene of dlsas-
tcrwlth delay. When In Fort Worth
about four weeks ago Mr. Hill of the I
Fire department there very courteously i
showed ine the Gaiuwell system In use j
at the Fort. He says the system for our i
cltv would cost about StiOO. surely a
small sum considering the beneUts de-
rived from Its outlay
Hoping this communication will cause
others to give their views on the sub-
ject I remain yours respeotfully

At the Instance of some of her neigh-
bors an Inquiry was made yesterday In-
to the state of Mrs. Minnie Xlntz's mind.
She was formerly tried about two years
ago and discharged as being sane. Her
husband has left her some time since
the lady having made for him with an
ax. All her neighbors were afraid of
her and did not care to get out In their
yards unless they were sure Mrs. Zlntz
was not In her house. Tho County At-

On Interviewing Mr. Murphy the con-
tractor It wns learned that the only
damage done the towers on the top of
Mr. Dullntg's new building Was a little
straining. A Liairr reporter thanks his
stars he has not got to write oopy dur-
ing a cyclofj In ono of the above towers
or bis copy and himself might be picked
up nnd placed as curiosities In the
