Open house set for 'Parrots and People'
Parrots and People, a nonprofit
organization will sponsor "Open
House in the Country" Nov. 18-19
at the Grotee Coyotee Wildlife
Outpost, a wildlife hunting resort
and the possible future location of
the organization's no-kill sanctu-
ary for companion birds.
Located outside of Pa lestine, the
ranch opens at 9 a.m. Saturday
and closes at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Incorporated in 1998, the Texas
based nonprofit organization's pri-
mary goal is to provide individual
lifetime solutions for long-term
care, rehabilitation and rescue of
companion birds. A no-kill solu-
tion for these exotic birds is essen-
tial due to the fact that some are
endangered and could vanish.
To achieve this gonl, Parrots and
People plan to create a sanctuary
in a natural botanical garden and
arboretum setting in a Texas rain
forest environment.
The sanctuary will be a place for
visitors to get out of town and take
the children for a day of wildflow-
ers, trail hiking and bird watching
in the East Texas countryside.
Today, Parrots and People care
for 29 birds in 2,100 square feet of
indoor space. Outdoor play areas
are currently being developed.
