Kirkaville, Mo. and had lived in
DeQuincy for 71 yeara. She waa a

Patterson Bishop, 51, and her
daughter, Patricia (Patti) Lea
Bishop, 18, both of Bullard was at
1 p.m. Friday at the Thompson
Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson-
ville. The Rev. Ben Davis offici-
ated. Burial was in Pierces Chapel
Cemetery.
The two were killed Tuesday,
Dec. 26 in Henderson County in an
automobile accident.
Mrs. Bishop was the daughter of
Wanda and the late Alfred
Patterson of Jacksonville. She was
a member of the Fellowship Bible
Church. She served the commu-
nity of Jacksonville for more than
30 years asa registered nurse with
home health agencies. Pallbear-
ers were Eugene Patterson, Ronnie
Rhymes, Ronnie Seeton, Gerald
Huddleston, Leslie Bearden, Jerry
Mack, Pat Herring and Charlea
Patterson.
Patti Bishop was born Oct. 22,
1982, to Curtis and Carolyn
Biahop. She was also a member of
the Fellowship Bible Church. She
devoted much of her time to com-
munity service volunteer work
during her summer breaks fVom
school. She was a member of Girl
Scouts of America for 13 years and
held the highest honor of being a
recipient of the Gold Award in Girl
Scouta. She was also a member of
the National Honor Society, a
mentor to her underclaaamen and
peers. She served aa an Interna-
tional Delegate for the Girl Scouta
and participated in many func-
tions across the United Statea aa
well aa London, England. She waa
also inducted in the 1999-2000
yearbook of Who's Who Among
American High School Studenta.
Her pallbearers were Brian
Rhymes, Jonathan Rhymea, Kevin
Stringham, Jaaon Henderson,
Jerry Lewis and Brent Patteraon.
Honorary pallbearer waa R.C. Rife.
Mrs. Bishop ia survived by her
husband, Curtis Bishop of Bullard;
her mother, Wanda Patterson; a
brother, Jeff Patterson; a son and
daughter-in-law, Casey and Mary
Bishop and their daughter, Layla
of Jacksonville; and a daughter,
Kelly Maines and her daughter,
Sarah of Quitman.
Patti is survived by her father,
Curtía Bishop; a brother and aia-
ter-in-law, Casey and Mary Biahop
and their daughter, Layla; a sis-
ter, Kelly Maines and her daugh-
ter, Sarah; her grandmother,
Wanda Patterson and an uncle
Jeff Patterson.
Cherokee County Diatrict Attor-
ney Elmer Beckworth Jr. an-
nounced the appointment of Dave
Sorrell aa hia Aasiatant Diatrict
Attorney. Sorrell praetioed law in
Cherokee County for 18 yeara be-
fore serving aa an Assistant Dia-
trict Attorney in 8mith and Andar-
aon counties. Moat recently the
new Aaaiatant Diatrict Attorney
aerved aa the attorney for the pa-
tienta at the Ruak State Hoapital.
Sorrell ia married to Vlcki
Sorrell, an inveatment represen-
tative for Edward Jonea, in Tyler,
Texaa. He haa two children, Ray
and Eliaabeth.
Ray ia a police officer in Jackson-
ville, and Elizabeth (now MM. Greg
Wade) ia a graduate Student at
SFA and worka aa a Bank Em-
ployee at Bancorp South in
Marshall.

Alto library gets computers
The Stella Hill Memorial Library
in Alto will celebrate the arrival of
public acceaa computing in the
community. With a grant from the
Bill and Melinda Gatea Founda-
tion, the library has purchaaed
two new Gateway computara, a
new laser printer, and set them up
with Internet connections.
The public is invited to an
open house from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Monday, Jan. 8.
Refreshments will be served,
and staff membera will bo on
hand to answer questions and
demonstrate how to use the com-
puters.

Nancy Barker, 73, former Chief
of Volunteer Servicea for
TXMHMR, died Dec. 21 at her
Granbury residence. Graveside
services were held Saturday, Dec.
23, at the Ridge Park Cemetary in
Hillaboro. A memorial service was
held later the same day at the
Acton Methodist Church in Acton.
Mrs. Barker was born Nancy
Jane Jackson, Jan.. 14, 1927, in
Hillaboro. Shu was preceded in
death by her parents, Moj. Gen.
and Mrs. Will E. Jackson; and two
brothers, Burris Jackson and Kirhy
H. Jackson.
Survivors include two daugh-
ters, Janeece Jackson Barker and
Cynthia Barker Caraon; a son, M.
Carliale Barker; a brother,
Randolph Jackson; and four grand-
children, Matthew Jackaon
Levenson, Allison Janeece Barker,
Abigail Denise Barker and Charlea
Jackson Barker.
She servod the Department for
more than 22 years and was in-
strumental in developing the vol-
unteer programs and councils
across the system. She loved her
work and had a passion for
volunteerism. During her career
she was active in many associa-
tions, including the international
Association for Volunteer Admin-
istration (AVA). She served one
term as AVA president and was
recipient of the prestigious AyA
Harriet Naylor Distinguished
Member Service Award.

Mr. Butler died Dec. 29. He was
horn June 28,1964, in Morton and
was a lifelong Cherokee County
resident. He was a Baptist and a
construction engineer.

Operator for the Region 4 Educa-
tion Service Center of Houston.
She was a member of Huntington
