Miami's girls and the Chil-
dress Bobcats emerged as tour-
nament champions in the Satur-
day night finals of Canadian's
51st annual Invitational Basket-
ball Tournament. Canadian
Wildcat teams were runners-up
in both divisions.
The Childress Bobcats, tour-
nament champions last season,
repeated their victory Saturday
night in the tournament's final
game, defeating the Canadian
Wildcats 52 to 39. Last year's
final score between the two
teams was almost identical, the
Bobcats winning it 52 to 37.
In the girls division final, the
Miami Warriorettes. runners-up
for the championship last year,
defeated the Canadian girls 53
to 38. Miami girls had been
edged for the championship last
year by the Follett P an there ttes.
The tournament finals Satur-
day night drew an almost-full
house in the spacious new
Canadian High School gymna-
sium. and was played before big
and enthusiastic crowds
throughout the three days of
competition.
Third place in the girls divi-
sion went to last year's cham-
pions. the Follett Pantherettes.
who defeated the Spearman
girls for the third place trophy
Saturday afternoon by a 47 to 39
score.
Third place in the boys divi-
sion went to Memphis Cyclones,
winners over the Shamrock Irish
in the third-place play-off game.
Consolation trophy winners
were the Childress girls by a 36
to 24 score over Shamrock in the
girls division; and the Miami
Warriors in a close 59 to 57
decision over the Follett Pan-
thers in the boys division. These
games were played Saturday
afternoon.
Team trophies and individual
all-tournament awards were
presented at the close of the
tournament in ceremonies con-
ducted by the CHS Student
Council, and featuring the
crowning of the CHS Basketball
King and Queen.
Selected as Basketball King
for 1980 was Don Ishmael, and
as Basketball Queen Alicia
Hobdy. They in turn presented

phies were provided by Car-
penter Oil Field Construction
Company (girls) and Quality
Body Shop (boys).
Runners up trophies were
given by Canadian Pharmacy
Family Center (girls) and First
National Bank (boys).
Third place trophies were
provided by Dairy Queen (girls)
and Canadian Lumber Company
(boys).
Consolation trophies were
given by Canadian Record and
General Parts (girls) and First
State Bank (boys).
Team Sportsmanship trophies
were awarded by Bestway Mar-
ket, and were presented to the
Shamrock girls and Darrouzett
boys teams.
Competition was stiff
throughout the tournament. In
first round games in the girls
division. Miami defeated Mem-
phis 89 to 32. Spearman defeat-
ed Childress 44 to 38. Follett
defeated Shamrock 45 to 23, j
