Women's Service League President Therese Abraham presents checks to Woodrow
Willmoth of the 50's Plus Club, Librarian Libby Barker and Grace Haines of the Women's
Hospital Auxiliary to further projects of those organizations.
Service League funds
benefit local groups
Gifts totalling $750 were pre-
sented Monday by a represent-
ative of the Women's Service
League to three local groups.
Two other groups will be given
appliances by the Service
League, when delivery has been
made on them.
Beneficiaries of the funds
earned by Women's Service
League members through vari-
ous projects were the Hemphill
County Library, which received
a check for $450; the 50*s Plus
Club which received $50; and
the Hemphill Ladies Auxiliary.
$250.
Librarian Libby Barker said
that she had already ordered a
new dictionary stand and two
sets of Raggedy Ann film strips,
knowing that the funds were
going to be given by the Service
League.
Woodrow Willmoth, presi-
dent of the 50's Plus Club, said
that their gift would be put
toward a mirror for the club-
house men's room, table covers,
an extension cord for the va-
cuum cleaner and other small
items.
Women's Auxiliary president
Grace Haines said that their
check would be put into the fund
for eventual purchase of a
portable X-ray machine. The
group now has almost $2,000
toward the total of about $16,-
000 needed for the machine to
be used at the hospital and
nursing home, as needed.
The funds being distributed
Monday by Service League Pre-
sident Therese Abraham have
been earned by the group
through various projects, in-
cluding participation in the Au-
gust Festival, a Fall Fashion
Show, the Kountry Kitchen
during the Foliage Festival and
a rummage sale. All funds
earned by the Service League
are distributed to worthy causes
within the community.
