Zvi and Ruchama Berkovitch
have been part of the Dallas jewish
community since 1985. Their con-
nection to Dallas predates their
"putting down roots" here. After her
family moved from Chicago to
Dallas, Ruchama attended school
here, graduating from Hillcrest
High School. Zvi was born in Israel
to Holocaust survivors. He fought
in the Six Day War, was an officer in
the Israeli Corps of Engineers, and
attended the Technion. In the fall of
1970, he came to Dallas, staying with
his father's life-long friend, jack
Oran, while attending the Univer-
sity of Texas at Arlington.
While both were in college, Zvi
and Ruchama met at a Hillel event,
and a year later, Rabbi Max Zucker
and Cantor Yitzchak Cohen mar-
ried them. They both graduated
UTA, Zvi with a B.A. in Math,
