Berlin h coneeirtd a novel law
of furnishing the right development
of children. This provides for *n
interchange of city audi country chil-
dren. I'hus the poor classes of Ber-
Isja, who can not afford family out-
iugs, are enabled to send their chil-
dren to the country, and in exchange
they receive the children from the
country home, who are thus pro-
vided with he liberal edueation towu
life affords. Reciprocal selfish in-
terest in their own prompts nsid-
erate treatment ef the visiting chil-
dren in each home. The plan works
so successfully the intenti< n now i<-
to extend it and make it interna-
tional, establishing an exchange of
children between different countries.

Taken dry as a powder, well wash-

water, salt has been utfd fer years
as a simple home remedy The oaAy
reason that the cure is not woiet
than the disease is that it gets wash-

teaspoonful, whioh !• usually a dose,
is gone in a wink. One weman, well
known in New York, vews it is bet-

Naval Arch Yet Possible,
New York may yet have a navy
arch, not to Dewey alone, but to the
whole navy. The alumni of the Na-
val academy have the mi. er in
charge, and have ascertained that
the money, amountfrlf to about
£200,000, which had ben subscribed
for the Dewey arch, is not beyond
their reach. Admiral Dewey has
warmly seuonded the sahflne, saying:
"1 fhe 11 gladly give att the assist-
ance in my power.'" The design
is to be practically tibe same as that
of the arah under whioh Admival
Dewey rode on his return from Ma-

Two Expositioas This Year.
Buffalo will not be the only city
in the exposition business this year.
Glasgow, Scotland, has been prepar-
ing for her exposition for tiiree
years past, and it promises to be no
Kmall affair, in spite of the fact
that the United States will not
be officially represented. It is prob-
able that each city will suffer but
little from the rivaly of the other.
An-ording to the growing custom the
art buildings of both expositions are
t.. be permanent, and it is worth
noting that Glasgow's has been built
from the profits of her international
\position in 1883.

"The mo-t remarkable draw I
iver saw made at poker was la a
ohicago Jub one night/' said a wsH
mown Chicago man the other
'There re five of us in a little se-
rial game, with a limit of $2S and
all jackpots. A friend of mine,
a hom I will call Jones, was dealing.
[ was first under the guns and passod
is did also the two men itting next.
The fifth man—we will say bias
Dame was Brown—opened the pot
for $5. Jones didn't h^%e the shad-
ow of a thing in his hand, but he
raised Brown $10, intending to
stand pat and bluff it out. Brawn
bad three aces, and he came bask
at Jones with $10 better. Now, in-
itead of laying down as a wise man
should in a case like that, Jones de-
termined to -ee it through. He knew
3f counse th. : it wt>uld >e useless to
try aud bluff, so he drew three to
i k ng and queen of spades. Brown
bad drawn two cards to his aoss
and had gotten a small pair. As a
bait, he led off the betting with $'*.
Jones hadn'i looked at his hand un-
til Brown bet, and when he picked
up his card-; he almost fell (feed.
He had dTawn an ace. jack and tan
sf -padea, making a royal flush.
They raised each other back Mfcd
forth until oue or the o her had all
his money in, and when the hands
were shown down the gpme broke up
right there. I know it to be a fast
that Jones hasn't touched a cari
from that day to this, but despite
iiie abstinence from gambling, he is
y*t firmly oonvinced rhat fortune
will some day give him an awful
drubbing to offset such an unhsaril
of-favor at her hands."
