In 1SC5 I . 31. Board, captain of the
company from tliis place, returned home
from the war with a pocket lull of con-
federate money and a uniform decidedly
moie holy than righteous. These con-
stituted his earthly possessions, coupled
with qualities, mental and physical, which
go to make up a strong man. Ilowbeit,
the captain went, to work to build up the
New South with the same energy and de-
votion he was wont to exhibit when he
was a ragged rebel. Mr. Board has now
completed the purchase of a corner lot,
adjoining tne Collin County bank, and
ere long expects to erect an extensive
business house on this lot, under the
management of Board & Son. Mr. Board
is an energetic merchant, and we are
glad to see him succeeding so nicely.
The committee, appointed to decide
between Judye Gray and Jas. Gough, as
to which should be the nominee of the
Democratic party in this precinct, failed
to convene lsist Saturday, the appointed
time, owing to the absence of J. W.
Kerr, one of the committeemen. This
being the case the two candidates, Gray
and Gough, are now turned loose before
the people in an unbridled race, ai.d the
committee have disbanded, leaving them
in the same position as before.
The Year Takes a Tumble.
The fall of the year is here dear reader,
and if you think as we do, it has taken
quite a tumble, and we hear that prices
have taken a big tumble over at the Collin
County Dry Goods Store. These gentle-
men have been getting in a huge stock of
dry goods (or the fall and winter trade,
and announce that they will give bargains.
We know you will say, "Oh ! it's mighty
easy to say Mr. So & So will give bar-
gains,"' buc we want you to give them a
call and see if what we say is not true.
Head their advertisement on the fir-t
p:ige of the Gazette.
The dengue is desisting at last, and it is
possible that it will disappear in the
course of the next ten years, if the sani-
tary committee don't allow the people
livina- in more densely populated sections
ot the city to pave the back allies with
old shoes, oyster cans, and then dampen
it down with swill and oll'al of every
kind.
Several line horses from Tennessee
have been entered at the Fair. It takes
flyers to get there ahead of Collin County's
■•stock.
Bradley & Mclver take the lead in the
Barber business. Give them a call.
1' The late rains have tempered the wind
to the shorn lamb—that is the farmer—
by adding materially to the prospects for
good wheat pasturage to eke out the
.short corn crop.
If you need a shave, go to Bradley and
Mclver, on the S. E. corner square.
The yield of corn in localities is much
better than was expected, but the crop
will be exceedingly light. It will be
greatly supplemented by pasturage of
wheat fields.

The Gazette takes pleasure in recom-
mending its advertisers to the public, and
will always say a good word for them
when a chance conies in its way. It will
be noticed tlmt the firm of O. L. Biebin-
ger & Co. has been a constant advertiser
with the Gazette since its first issue,
and that they are also building up one of
the most extensive and solid institutions
in our sprightly little city. You will be

Everybody must have groceries, as
they are a portion of that for which we
live, and ot course everybody wants to
sro where they can get these articles
cheapest, and at the same time receive
the politest attention. Ot>our own pei-
sonal knowledge we know Charley Battle
and Brother fill the above requirements.
You are enabled to make selections from
the freshest and and most extensive stock
of groceries to be found in the citj*, and
will receive every accommodation from
these young men, who, having stnrted in
business here two years a<ro, are to-tlav
among our most prominent groeerymen.
Success to their business is the Gazette's
wish. See their "ad.," won't you?

to the front as a county newspaper, and
every day bears witness to the fact that
new names are being added to our list,
persons sending copies home to their

county we have. We are not on a boom
at all, but are mighty well pleased with
the progress we are making.
