Whilst serving as an Escort to a party of California Emigrants. Escort commanded and location and construction of Road directed by Capt. R. B. Marcy 5th Inf'y. assisted as far as Topofke Creek by Bvt. Capt. F. T. Dent 5th Inf'y. Exploration and Survey of the route by 1st Lieut. James H. Simpson, Corps U. S. Top'l. Eng'rs. Assisted as far as Topofke Creek, by Capt. Dent, and all the way through, by Mr. Thos. A. P. Champlin. Projected and Drawn by Lieut. Simpson, assisted by Mr. E. M. Kern and Mr. Champlin. For a continuation of Route, beyond Old Fort Holmes, See Maps Nos. 2, 5, & 4.

Additional text below title: Note. The Exploration and Maps illustrating it have been facilitated by the surveys of the Canadian River and of New Mexico, made in 1845, 6 & 7 by Lieut. Albert, Corps of Topographical Engineers.
