Mr. Fields moved that Hon. W. M.
Fly of Gonzales County, who succeeded
Hon. B. B. Hoskins, Sr., District No.
67, be recognized by the House as a
new member, his certificate of election
not having yet been received.
The motion l revailed unanimously.
Mr. Boggs moved that Hon. A. B. An-
derson, who succeeds Hon. J. C. Amsler,
District No. 20, of Waller County, be
recognized by the House as a new mem-
ber, his certificate of election not hav-
ing yet been received.
The motion prevailed unanimously.
The constitutional oath of office was
then administered by the Speaker to the
new members, whose names are given
above.
The new members were then severally
presented by the Speaker to the mem-
bers of the House.
PROVIDING FOR EMPLOYES OF
THE HOUSE.
Mr. Wallace of Freestone offered the
following resolution:
Resolved, That the Speaker of the
House shall appoint the following em-
ployes for the First Called Session of
the Thirty-ninth Legislature, to serve
for such compensation as is hereafter
provided:
One private secretary to the Speaker,
$7.50 per day.
One stenographer for the Speaker,
$5.00 per day.
One porter for the Speaker, $3.00
per day.
One page for the Speaker, $2.50 per
day.
One warrant clerk, $5.00 per day.
One assistant to the Journal Clerk,
$7.50 per day.
One secretary to the Chief Clerk,
$5.00 per day.
One assistant to the Calendar Clerk,
$7.50 per day.
One assistant to the Sergeant-at-Arms,
$5.00 per day.
Thirty expert stenographers, $5.00
per day each.
One assistant to the Sergeant-at-
Arms in the gallery, $5.00 per day.
Twenty-two pages, $2.50 per day each.
Five committee clerks, $5.00 per day
each.
One mailing clerk for Journals, $5.00
per day.One clerk, who shall be manager of
the stenographers, $7.50 per day.
One page for Mr. Rice of Houston
county, $4.00 per day.
One page for Mr. DeBerry of Red
River county, $4.00 per day.
One clerk to the Sergeant-at-Arms,
$7.50 per day.
One page to the Sergeant-at-Arms,
$3.00 per day.
One night watchman, $5.00 per day.
One messenger to carry papers to Con-
federate Home, $2.50 per day.
One messenger to carry papers to
Confederate Woman's Home, $2.50 per
day.
Two assistants to Enrolling and En-
grossing Clerks, $5.00 per day each.
Not to be appointed until needed.
Ten porters, $2.50 per day each.
One chief operator for voting machine,
$7.50 per day.
One assistant operator for voting ma-
chine, $5.00 per day.,
Be it further resolved, That it shall
be the duty of the Speaker, and he is
hereby empowered, to dispense with the
services of any employe when in his
judgment said employe is not further
needed or for misconduct of any em-
ploye; and, further, he shall have the
power to appoint extra help when in his
judgment it is needed.
The resolution was read second time
and was adopted.
PROVIDING POSTAGE FOR MEM-
BERS.
Mr. Davis of Dallas offered the fol-
lowing resolution:
Resolved, That each member be al-
lowed $10 for postage stamps and the
Speaker $15, and the Chief Clerk $10,
the Sergeant-at-Arms $5.00, the Com-
mittee on Contingent Expenses $5.00
and the Committee on Appropriations
$5.00, to be paid out of the contingent
fund of the House.
Resolved, That the post office box rent
of the members of the House shall be
paid out of the contingent fund of the
House, upon approval of the Contingent
Expense Committee.
Resolved, That all requisitions for
paper and supplies necessary for the
preparation of bills, for the enrolling
and engrossing rooms, tbe minute books
and blank paper for use of committees,
the letterheads, envelopes, etc., to be
used by the members or employes of the
House to be made under the direction
of the Committee on Contingent Ex-
penses.
Resolved, That the Chairman of the
