telegrams from him. All were couch-

as "bushels of love, "don's worry, ev-
erything will lie air right" "love you so

"your darling *weetheart," predominat-
ed In the wires sent and received by her.
To several she signed tiie word "bam-
bino" Instead of lM*r name. It is Ital-
ian for sweetheart.
The trip east literally was a story

Mr. Reece returned to Sherman Sat-
urday evening at H :?W o'clock; bring-
ing the negro and the merchandise stol-
en from the Marks home with him,
and with the m gro having made a purr
ported statement admitting that he bur-
glarized the home. The goods, which
were valued at approximately #250, It
was stated Saturday evening, wereJre-
turned to the Marks home before 10
o'tTock Saturday evening.
Working on Another Case.
The inves^gatlon being maile of the
Imrglary several nights ago of the home
of Mr. and' Mrs. Ernest .Tone*. Wash-
ington avenue aud Woods street, led to
the negro l* lug apprehended. It was
learned, and until the investigation of
his effect* showed the goods to have a
connection with the Marks home, offi-
cers were working on the theory that he
was iMisslbly connected with the Jones
burglary. Chief ReeCe received Infor-
mation short!/ after the .negro hoard
ed a southbound Interurban carat 2;30
o'clock that the negro was In posses-
sion of several articles of Jewelry, as
well a* valuable clothing, nnd Acting in
a suspicious manner. The iufiirmation
led Chief Reece to phone McKinney
officers and request them, through the
agent of the Texas Electric Railway
Company there, to detain him.
When the officers at McKinney re-
ported back that ammig the effects In
the negro's possession was a Masonic
watch charm with Mr. Marks' name upr
on if, Mr. Ree<"e sought Information of a
possible burglary of the Marks home,
but as they were out of town he did not
learn definitely that the burglary oc-
cur! ed until after be returned from Me-
Kiniicy. during which time A. E. Marks
verified the burglary.
According to the officer, the negro
said he entered the Marks homiii Satur-
day afternoon at 1 o'clock, after ascer-
tain ig that no one wfts at bouac. He
entered the borne wearing overalls and
left Wfaring a suit*of cloihe* which he
put on in the.house. This statement
was verified hy the finding of bis over-
all* in a closet off the home. Two other
suits of Mr. Marks were taken, which
plated In a black leather hand hag. tnk-
eu from I he home, along with silk neg-
ligee and clothing valued at approx-
imately $100. Two watHics aud chains,
a bdttle of "cologne valued at $20. an
Elks tooth charm, and the Masonic
wjLtch charm bearing Mr. Marks' name
were among the other articles taken
and returned' later to the home. The
ladies negligee was wiaptted In paper
which bad contained au article address-
ed to the Marks home.

HOUatoh, Texas. May 20.—Joe Win-
ters. 19-year-old negro, Identified as the
negro, who yesterday assaulted a white
girl near Leonidas, Montgomery Coun-
ty. was burned to death at the north-
east corner of the court house square at
Conine. 4:15 o'clock this afternoon.
Winters was burned at the stake near
the court house. At least 1,000 persona,
Including women and children, witness
was touched to his oi! saturated cloth-
ing. he admitted that he criminally as-
saulted a 14-year-old girl.
The burning followed a long chase
with bloodhounds. . Early today the
whole town closed up and people came
from the entire countryside to Join In
