As you and your family enjoy eating turkey today, and the next day
and the next day, let us remember what this holiday should mean to
us. I have heard many school children referring to this holiday
as "turkey day," but that really kind of cuts the real meaning of
this dav of Thanksgiving, iust as 1 believe that "X-Mas" leaves
out tiie most important part of Christmas. A day of reunions and
renewed thankfulness for the many blessings which we "harvest"
each year, it is a time to think of family, friends, and faith in the
source of these many blessings.

Great team spirit was shown all week as the team, cheerleaders,
twirlers, band, and fans built up momentum for the big game. The
parade, bonfire, and pep rally Thursday highlighted the week, des-
pite efforts by some people who had no more to do than to set fire
to the pile on Wednesday. Firemen and students worked overtime
to rebuilt the bonfire for Thursday's pep rally.

Local Mental Health/Mental Retardation volunteers received a
surprise visit from state officials this week.
The Monday afternoon occupation therapy class was in progress,
with both the volunteers and patients busily working on Christmas
projects, when a group of Harllngen state officials and guests from
Georgia arrived to observe the local volunteers at work.
The Rio Grande City Council has gained national fame as an "out-
reach" center that has grown and achieved results on their own
without much direct supervision from the facility they serve. They
were cited as an outstanding example of what can be done by people
who care at the national meeting held In St. Louis, Missouri In
September and at the state services council meeting in Corpus
Chrtstl, in October of this year.
Four of the local volunteers attended this state meeting. The
Georgia visitors, who want to pattern their program after the Tex-
as program came to Rio Grande City to learn how they can make
their "outreach" program as effective as the one here.

by Tissa Peterson
"We have all of the same in-
terests, That's why we married
each other," laughed Becky

any of this season's games.
The couple met in Browns-

ter a "whirlwind romance"—
they met in August of 1971, be-
gan dating in November, and be-
came engaged in March—Becky
and Roel were married in Au-
gust 5, 1972 and have lived in
Rio Grande City since that time.
They live in a trailer house near
the band hall in Fort Ringgold.
The Maldonados enjoy sports,
fishing, dancing, going to the
beach, and "just being with
each other."
Becky, Miss Mercedes of
1968, graduated from high
school in Mercedes in 1969. Her
parents are Mr. and Mrs, Rob-
ert Rodriguez. Becky served as
the Duchess of Poinsettia at the
Citrus Fiesta and was the Na-
