Gov. Dolph Briscoe
A new era of politics was born when Dolph Briscoe was
elected the Governor of the State of Texas two years ago. In
that time the governor has accomplished many goals
favorable to the citizens of Starr County.
Ivet us reflect a moment on the past political situation.
In the Democratic Primaries of 1972 Dolph Briscoe
defeated the incumbent governor of Texas demonstrating
the desire of Texas to have a new concept of government.
One without scandal.
If you recall, Briscoe did not make $62,000 after vetoing
state bank bills. Briscoe does not have to sustain his
livelyhood by playing politics with political empressarios
who would destroy the Jeffersonian principles oi
democracy.
Another concern our governor shares with Starr Coun-
tians is our tax burden. Briscoe, two years ago, made the
promise not to introduce any more taxes that would
overburden us. He has kept the promise.
We remember the years when state governors paid no
attention to the Starr citizens but rather paid all homage to
our county politicians. Briscoe has demonstrated numerous
times :us concern for the citizens of this county by listening
to them. Our complaints are heard in Austin. Briscoe
responds to them. He keeps his promises.
Mario E. Ramirez
Dr. Ramirez has been county judge for several years and
in that time he has kept the county's financial reins as firm
as possible. He deserves your support and vote.
Juan Erasmo Saenz
Saenz is not a new comer to politics. He has participated
in the reform movements beginning in 1968. He has devoted
many hours in order to promote decent, good government
and he also deserves your support for the office of district
clerk.
Jose D. Villarreal
After many years of public service and political turmoil,
Villarreal was the highest vote-getter in Starr County last
May. His nomination for county treasurer is a victory for
the people who vote for the man and not the political fac-
tion. Cast your vote for him November 4th.
