La Grulla Mayor
Seeks Eleetion Contest
Gonzalez is running on a
United Groups Progressive
Ticket with two citizens of La
Grulla seeking to be elected to
the posts of the two city com-
mission seats. His running
mates are Miguel Ruelas and
Constancio Comino Salinas.
The city election will be held
in April.
The mayor of I-a Grulla has
filed for election for the same
post now held.
Reymundo Gonzalez was
appointed mayor of La Grulla
after the resignation of Ramiro
Bermea who took over the
mayorship when Hector I,ozano
was elected county com-
missioner.
Gonzalez states that he will be
elected in his own right and that
his progressive policies will
continue. He further states that
the city has applied for a 100%
grant from the federal
government. He is very hopeful
the money will be given to the
city.
The mayor feels he must
retain his present position in
order to fulfill the wishes and
the expectations of the people of
La Grulla. He knows that the
city has needed streets for
many years and that his ad-
ministration is working on
getting a few miles of paving for
the city.
Another major concern the
mayor has is the lack of fire
prevention apparatus. Gonzalez
reveals that he and the city
administration are presently
working on plans which will
shortly place a fire truck at the
disposal of the city of La Grulla
and no longer will the city have
to depend on the Volunteer Fire
Department of Rio Grande City.

Although some questions
were raised as to the propriety
and the indebtedness of the
defunct Water District Number
1, the questions were answered.
Foremost was the question of
the indebtedness and the fear
the indebtedness would hurt the
present water district.
However, careful research by
the Board's attorneys, A.A.
Munoz and C. Y. Mills, reveal
the total amount of in-
debtedness of the previous
water district are null and void
and that judgements against
the district have been can-
celled. The attorneys have
reassured the public and the
board members there is nothing
to fear.
The Board of Directors have
set March 29th as the day for
the annexation election. Two
elections will be held
simultaneously. One election
will be held at the Water
District Business Office, at 505
East Main, for the voters of the
water district and the other
election will be held in the areas
to be annexed.
Outside the water district,
non-water district residents can
vote at Dreumont Brothers,
East Highway 83 and in the Los
Garcias area the election place
will be at Hie Claudio Garcia
Lumber Yard, West Highway
83.
According to proposition to be
voted on, the outcome of the
voting will determine whether
or not the qualified voters
