Rio FFA Competes
In Weslaco
Three members of the Rio Grande City
High School chapter of the Future Farmers
of America (F.F.A.) participated Saturday,
Nov. 15, in a Quiz Competition in Weslaco.
Mario Guillen, Vocational Agriculture
teacher and F.F.A. sponsor, stated that the
team did very well considering the time
factor they had to study.
"Although neither of the three members
placed, we feel they should be recognized
for their hard work and ability of com-
petitiveness," Guillen stated.
The local F.F.A. members will compete
again in April, 1981.
F.F.A. officers for the 1980-fll school year
are: Ray Hinojosa, president; Fidencio
Guerra, vice president; Reyna Garcia,
secretary; Roy Cruz, treasurer; Lee Roy
Pena, reporter; and Rogelio Rocha, sen-
tinel.
F.F.A. sponsors are Guillen and Manuel
Escobar.
In the Anglo-Saxon trial by
compurgation, the accused
was released if a number of
his neighbors were willing to
swear to his innocence.

Heating Water by the Sun
It may surprise some to
know that solar water
heaters are not new. There
were thousands in use in
Florida and the Southwest
during the 1930s. Now
they're becoming
increasingly popular in the
Northeast. In 1979 alone,
the number of installations
doubled from 5.000 to
10,000 thanks to the efforts
of the Northeast Solar
Energy Center, which is
operated in Massachusetts
by the not-for-profit
Northern Energy Corn.
A recent government
study indicated that 7 7
percent of Americans don't
know that heating water
consumes more energy in a
year than refrigerating food
drying clothes and lighting
homes, combined.

Mr. Filemon Garza, Jr. who To terminate the program,
