FOR HORSES OF HER AGE.
Florence Robert. Heavily narked as
the Favorite Noam Out at the Fife-
lah of the Guadalajara Handicap.
(By T. H. SCHNEIDAU.)
Six straight favorites were bowled
over yesterday afternoon at the Jua-
rez race rourie and the large Mon-
day crowd that waa In attendance
found the came the hardest It has
been at the present meeting. The dajr
waa startea orr with the defeat of trre
odda-on choice In the openina event
and wound up with the defeat of the
two choices In the last events. The ln-
ronaistent Swish accounted for the
latter event.
Sterling Finish of Filly.
The feature of the afternoon was
the sterling performance of the fine
filly Lady Capricious making her
maiden start on what should prove a
brilliant career. Opposed by a fine
field of youngsters she showed i
daxzling display of speed and run-
ning straight and true from the break

There are some brilliant youngsters
under cover at the Juarez course and
lome of them have been known to
have worked sensationally but until

her.
Guadalajara Handicap.
Dividing Interest with the race for
the youngsters was the feature event
of the afternoon the Guadalajara
handicap for three-year-olds and up
wards at six furlongs. The race
brought out a small but select field
of five horses. The contest was one of
the best that has- ever been staged on
the local course as the entire field
of five were so closely bunched at
the finish that not aa much as a
length and one-half separated the
winning horse from the one that fin-
ished in last position. It was a strug-
gle that brought the crowd to Its feet

Fluf usajll Roberts Opened Favorite
Of the field that faced the barrier
Florence Roberta opened favorite with
Mlmorioeo the second choice. The
former went back In the betting and
at post time Mimortoao waa favorite
with Flodence Roberta second choice.
Sseelt was the medium of heavy play
his chanoa being backed down from
r high price of fours until a little
better than twos was the beat obtain-
able at post time. Irish Gentlemen at
sixes also draw a smart play. Closer
making his first appearance In a long
time being the only one neglected.
They were at the barrier but a few
momenta when Starter Caasldy caught
them to a fine start and gave them
the word. Florence Roberts Im
mediately went to the front with U-
eeit and Closer aa her nearest op-
ponents. This was the order as they
rounded the far turn. Mlmorioso be
Ing close upon the leaders. Irish
Gentlemen who broke slowly four or
five lengths behind bis field. The
leaders ran closely bunched to the
tre(ch. with Florence Roberts still
showing the way.
Pretty Struggle In stretch.
At this point Florence Roberts be
gan to draw a little away from her
two nearest competitors to this point
but Woods on Mlmorioso and Moore
on Irish Gentleman breught their
mounts Into contention and then with
the field of five almost on even terms
began one of the prettiest struggles
through the stretch that has been wit-
nessed on the local course this sea-
son. Irish Gentleman Shown Speed.
Irish Gentleman came down on the
rail saving some ground but the ef-
fort to get Into contention at the
stretch turn told on him and he hung
when it appeared as if he might win
Meanwhile Florence Roberts and
Mlmorioso were struggling nose and
nose In front for the victory. Woods
broke a stirrup leather Just when his
assistance was most needed by his
mount and the accident cost Mlmor-
ioso the race as Florence Roberts
mapaged to land the victory by a
nose with Irish Gentleman a length
back and but a nose in front of the
other two.
Closer showed a splendid perform-
ance In this event for his first out in
some time and will probably score
I rackets before the meeting is much
older. This speedy son of Abe Frank
and Murine Bunton is a speed marvel
but bad ankles keep him from show-
ing at his best. His long rest appears
to have benefited him and he may
yet race to the form his early career
and breeding warrants.
Good Card Today.
Today Is the first ladles' day of the
present week and with the good card
arranged by Secretary Ed. Jasper and
a continuance of the present goou
weather a large crowd Is expected to
be on hand. The feature of the card
down for decision Is the Jalisco handi
cap which brings to the post a Bpeedy
and evenly balanced field of seven
horses. This event will probably divide
interest with the opening scramble for
the youngsters always a popular ev-
ent with the mnmhara at the fair
sex.
Silver Blossom was an odds-on
choice for the Initial event yesterday
but the best she could do was to fin
Ish second to Lady Capricious. Daisy
Stevens second choice In the betfl
was the next nearest In pursuit. The
Newman stable started a fine looking
filly In this event a full sister to Dick
Dodle In Joseflna Zarate who showed
a fine performance for her first out
being forced to take up a couple of
times due to Interference.
Anne McGee Wins Handily.
Anne McGee opened equal choice
with Princess Industry for the sec
ond event of the afternoon hut ap
peared to be neglected In the betting.

by opening up a tremendous gap on
her field during the early running of
the race and maintaining her advant
age easily to the finish. Amity out
run the first part came last in tne
stretch and got the place from Joe
Woods. Princess Industry showed a
flash of early speed ny following the
early pace to the far turn and then
retired to the rear.
Aunt Elsie came to life In the third
race and showing a sudden return to
form easily defeated the field op
posed to her. Superl was the favorite
