Letter from the Editor
Pop Quiz! On what date did the Allies storm Normandy Beach?
On what date did Japanese planes bomb ships anchored in Pearl
Harbor? On what date did the Twin Towers in New York City crash
to the ground? Bonus points if you were able to answer the first two
questions without help. Hopefully you knew the third. But I must
admit, shamefully, it took a reminder from a friend before I realized
why flags were at half-staff in downtown Dallas as we drove by on
Saturday. Consequences of 9/11 have permeated our lives. If you're
like the many who have to travel by air to get to UD, you've been
through the killer security lines and you've had to put your liquids
into small containers, packed within a transparent zipper-lock bag.
Inconvenient, but arguably necessary. But for me, the emotional
pangs that I experienced as a seventh-grader watching footage of
the Twin Towers fall has faded. I think it's just a part of the natural
course of life. Crises occur. We don't forget, but we do have to keep
moving on. I'm sure those we lost would want it no other way.
The victims of 9/11 and their loved ones are in my prayers.
