A second modification involves the
research component. This year three
collaborative research projects are
being sponsored by ESP. One project
focuses on a school, Palo Alto Middle
School, and the process of implement-
ing a number of school-wide innova-
tions. The second project is comprised
of teachers who are conducting re-
search in their own classrooms. The
Principal's Action Lab is another re-
search project which provides assess-
ment and professional development
for principals and examines the im-
pact of this growth in leadership skills
on campus improvement. These var-
ied research projects provide addi-
tional opportunities for professional
development and school improve-
ment.
A final change involves the departure
of Dr. Bill Reaves, Director of the
Effective Schools Project for the past
four years. He has recently accepted a
position as a liaison for the Texas
A&M University System and the
Texas Education Agency. Dr. Reaves
values partnerships with public
schools and was strongly committed
to the Effective Schools Project. He
provided outstanding leadership for
ESP and will be missed. I am de-
lighted to assume the role of Director
and honored to be following such vi-
sionary leaders as Dr. Reaves and Dr.
Jim Boyd, the founder of ESP. I'd like
to take this opportunity to welcome all
new and returning members. Please
let me know additional ways this
project can support you in your efforts
to provide the best possible education
for Texas public school students.
In the midst of change, the goal for the
Effective Schools Project remains the
same: to assist public school districts
in school improvement initiatives.
Lasting improvement in education
comes from within and is a result ofeducators working together. Thank
you for allowing Tarleton to be a part-
ner in this process. ESP1995-96 Effective Schools Project
