Re-Union of Hood's Brigade.
DALLAS, TEXAS, yUNE 27 AND 28, 1884.
The surviving members of Hood's Brigade held their
15th annual meeting in the city of Dallas. The attendance
was not as large as it would have been otherwise,
owing to the fact that within the past few days the date
was changed from the 28th to the 27th, a day earlier.
There was a fair attendance, however, and the re-union
was a success. A meeting was held in the forenoon, at
the Opera House, for the purpose of transacting business
connected with the organization.
The officers of the association are: President, W. H.
Martin, Fourth regiment; Vice-President, Val C. Giles,
Fourth regiment; Secretary, Robert Burns, Fifth regi
ment; Treasurer, J. C. Nag61. Mr. Martin is a resident
of Athens, Mr. Giles of Austin, Mr. Burns of Houston,
and Mr. Nagel of Austin.
Maj. Martin, the President of the association, presided.
The proceedings were opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Smith.
An invitation was extended to all those who fought on
the Federal side during the war and to the soldiers of
the Mexican war, to occupy seats on the platform.
Mrs. Winkler, wife of the late Judge Winkler, who
was an officer of the Brigade, was invited to a seat on
the platf6rm, to which she was escorted by ex-Governor
Lubbock.
The Secretary began reading the minutes of the 14th
re-union held last year at Crockett, but a motion to suspend
the same was unanimously carried.
