In later eras this tendency toward ornamentation and refinement
became ever more dominant. The stylistic balance embodied in
the DMFA Bodhisattva enhances the sense of dignity and
majesty with which the figure is imbued. We are fortunate to now
have in Dallas so fine an example of the devotional Art of Nepal.

First Heirloom Discovery Night
& DMFA Members' Preview Party
Invade the attic, and explore the basement! Examine the
cupboards and empty the steamer trunk. You may already be an
heiress and not know it! Or you may simply be curious about that
"thing" Aunt Myrtle left you. To answer your questions and satisfy
your curiosity, you'll want to attend Heirloom Discovery Night, a
benefit affair hosted by the DMFA League on April 24 and
featuring six renowned experts from Sotheby Parke Bernet.
For DMFA members only, the Preview Party will be presided over
by representatives of the world famous auction house, who will
offer free verbal appraisals on items that just may be worth a
fortune! The categories will include: painting; decorative arts;
silver; pre-Columbian; oriental; and "collectibles." (Any object too
large to carry can be evaluated if the member brings a quality
B&W photograph of the item.)
Admission to the benefit party is $15 per person, and includes
cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and appropriate music for heirloom
speculation. All proceeds will be used to cover the evening's
expenses and for future League-sponsored activities. Since this
is the DMFA's first Heirloom Discovery Night, the occasion
promises to be a memorable affair and possibly enriching
experience. Be sure to mark your calendar; April 24 could be a
red-letter day for you! Free appraisals will be offered to museum
members on this evening only.
The Sotheby Parke Bernet experts will be present at the Museum
on the following day, April 25, when the general public is invited
to participate in Heirloom Discovery Day. A fee of $5 will be
charged on Saturday for each "heirloom" appraised, and a limit
of ten items per individual has been established.
